Has anyone ever gotten prescription sunglasses online? My eye doctor gave me my prescription and PD number... but I'm leery of buying glasses online for some reason. If I were to get them at my eye doctor they would be $200+.... any suggestions of reputable websites that I could check out? Experiences?

I have used Zenni with amazing results. 2 years ago when we realized our flex spending money was running out, we all got extra pairs of glasses and I'm so glad we did. Super cheap, takes about 2 weeks to arrive, but you can't beat the price. zennioptical.com

I second zenni! My husband has ordered about 10 pairs of glasses from them in the last 2 years, including sunglasses and safety glasses for work. He has been happy with all of them and he recommends them to everyone!

and they were $12 I believe. DD was 8 and I didn't think she would really wear them. Eye dr. checked them out and they were fine. (She wore them some, but certainly not $200 worth.)

Just measure your favorite pair and you should be able to find one there that is similar.

At Zenni I don't see the option for prescription sunglasses- are they just the clip on kind?

OOPS, duh- I see it now! Thanks for this recommendation!!

x2 :thumbsup2

I've used Coastal Contacts for regular glasses several times with great results. Right now they have a free pair offer if you like them on Facebook and click thru the link. I haven't tried them for Rx sunglasses yet, but I'm thinking about getting a pair. The last pair of regular glasses I got was for middle DS and cost me just $14.95 in shipping charges. They look exactly like the designer pair his opthamalogist wears. :thumbsup2

ETA - they arrived in 2 days!

Also, to PP who mentioned measuring your glasses. No need to fuss with a ruler, if you look on the bridge of your glasses there will be a measurment for the front (two numbers a square and another number) this is the lens and bridge width, and on the arm will be another measurement - sometimes the front measurement will also be there. If you use those measurements you should easily get a pair that fits really well.

I have used Zenni MANY times. Highly recommend them. If you want name brand or designer prescription sunglasses I recommend FramesDirect.com.

Yes. Zenni is fabulous. I love the virtual try on feature. Which reminds me I need a couple more pairs of sunglasses,

I have used eyefly.com for both regular glasses and sunglasses. They are more expensive than places like Zenni but I really love their frames. I guess they are just more "designer" in style. $99/pair but check for coupon codes. The lenses also come with anti-reflective and anti-scratch coating which costs extra at other online places. You get a nice hard case for them instead of a soft-sided sleeved. I have also had AMAZING customer service from them. If you don't love them they will take them back no questions asked and pay for the return shipping. Highly recommended!

Unfortunately, Eyefly doesn't offer complex prescriptions, bifocals, magnification for readers, high index lenses or transitions. The style are cute but they are very limited. Perfect if you have a basic prescription and you like one of the styles offered.

I have used eyebuydirect. My prescription is single vision but my dad used for trifocals and said they were pretty good.

My husband used Warby Parker and loved them. You can have 5 glasses sent to you to try on before sending back. One great thing about them is that they give a pair to a deserving person for every pair ordered.

Thanks everyone! I'm going to order me some glasses today! :)

I would suggest going to Costco. They are very highly rated by Consumer Reports.

And even if you are not a member, I know that at least in Florida non-members are allowed (by law) to get prescriptions for medications filled. I would think the same applies to prescription glasses.

You are taking a huge chance by ordering any RX glasses online. You never know what the quality will be and the big thing is how will you know if the frames even fit! A frame may look cute in a picture but then be way too large for your face when you actually try it on. Always remember you get what you pay for.

I felt that way before I ordered my first pair. I did. Then I ordered some. I know some people like the 'virtual try on' and find that to be helpful. I've had fantastic luck buying frames in measurement ranges I know already fit me.

And yes, normally I believe you DO get what you pay for... but when you realize the mark-up on eyewear in the optician's office is about 1800% it leaves you wondering what else they're supposed to give you for that $600.

I am an optician and the markup is NOT 1800%. Quality and service cost money. Part of purchasing your glasses at a privately owned office is getting good service including free adjustments, nose pad replacements and a 2 year warranty. And if you are from a small town like I am it gives good jobs to people, like myself, and keeps money in the local economy where the owners shop and give back.
If you needed a cast for an arm or a leg would you buy it online or let a trained professional fit you and take the precise measurements you need.

That's the nice thing about Warby Parker. They send you 5 glasses to try on at home and give you a week to decide for free. It made the buying process a lot easier. And my husband got some cool glasses that he normally would not have even tried on but I liked them and they look good on him!
