Prepping 8yo DS for Disney!

My 8 yo DS is familiar with many of the newer Disney movies and characters, but really has no clue who/what some of the older things are about. So, I thought so much would be lost on him by not knowing about these things, I went and rented a couple of Disney movies.

One of my all time favorite movies as a kid was Swiss Family Robinson. He did not want to watch it, but I told him I really thought he would like it. We just finished it, and he loved it. (Really wanted to do the "told ya so" dance, but refrained ) I also rented Peter Pan. He's seen that, but it's been a long time, and I'm the one who really needs a refresher on that!

What are some of your favorite older Disney movies/characters? I don't think I could talk him into watching any of the Princess type movies, so those are out. Mary Poppins would probably be a stretch, too. We're 3 months away from our vacation, so I've got time to get quite a few movies in!

This doesn't exactly answer your question, but my 8 year old is also interested in finding out about all the characters. We have been renting some movies, but we found that the children's room at our local library had tons of Disney picture books. They only took him about 15 minutes each and it was a quick exposure to a wide range of the older movies (Jungle Book, Pinocchio, Dumbo, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, and The Rescuers are just some of the ones he read.) How about Disney's The Adventures of Huck Finn (1993, PG)? Last time at WDW my sons loved running around and exploring Tom Sawyer's island...

We watched Swiss Family Robinson before we left too (another great boy story)!

We also rented several classic Mickey/Donald/Goofy cartoons from the library.
