Hi there!

I went to Disney in Feb 2004 on the "Gold Plan", which is very similar to the Premium plan...

Honestly, I didn't use any of the sport options - but I took advantage of being able to take tours at the parks and ate in the Signature restaurants and made sure to order one of the most expensive things on the menu just because I could - I hope that answers your question about how limiting the ood program is - basically limitless!

To me it was worth it in food alone because of where I ate and what I had. Not that I'm saying I over-indulge, but it was nice to eat at California Grill, Bistro de Paris and Brown Derby and have the option of appetizer, entree and desert and not budget my "wishes" or I guess now, it's table service credits - each one of those restaurants takes 2 credits on the current Dining Plan.

I'm sure with the sports you will get your moneys worth! Yes - you do get to golf (bring your clubs) and there are fishing excursions you can partake in (but you have to throw the fish back!) and there's also surfing lessons, parasailing, wakeboarding...

Enjoy!

The recreation is also very easy to book. You can do so ahead of time by calling 407-WDW-PLAY or even calling from your room once you get there. I can't imagine Jan being a big time for water activities like fishing. I haven't gone on the fishing excursion in years but I remember it being a lot of fun. Don't forget you can also go parasailing and jet skiiing at the Contemporary. I highly recommend both, especially the morning jet skis which give you a guided tour around bay lake and 7 seas lagoon before letting you "free ride" in a specific area of bay lake.

As for dining, there really aren't any significant limitations. You can't eat at Victoria and Alberts of the Chef's Domain at Citricos. As for the food itself, you pick a non alc beverage, appy, entree and dessert off the regular menu.

We absolutly love this package. If our Feb trip wasn't at CR (and we hadn't just been on the package in Oct) we would be spending the extra money for it again.

We used to do the Gold Plan almost every trip when we went once/year or less. It was great! :cool1:

Golf clubs used to be included BTW. taking out the different types of boats was fun as well. We did the fishing excursions (actually my husband and kids did ;) ), waterskiing, our oldest son used to do the tours that were offered for older kids, we enjoyed lots of fine dining, HoopDeeDoo, etc.. My husband and oldest were signed up for the parasailing on two different trips but both times were cancelled due to weather. I would call ahead if you schedule that because once we had no idea it would be cancelled and they went all the way over to CR marina only to find out it was a no go.

BTW, I wonder why this got moved to codes and rates??? :confused3

Hi there!

I'm going on our first trip to WDW this December. We booked a Premium Plan with a TA. My DH has golf tee times booked for every single day that we are there as well as a lesson. Clubs and shoes are provided if you need them but if you are avid golfers I'm sure you've got your own. We didn't book fishing (way too impatient!) but one of my DDs did book a trail ride. So, yes, you actually can do the sports options, easily, and with the dining, sports, cirque de soleil....the premium plan really can be a good value for you.

Even with your own clubs, it can be nice to use WDWs. It is nice to not have to fir them in a rental car along with everything else. In addition, they do have nice clubs. I remember one trip my DH was thrilled to out some clubs that were a rather new type at that point. I think it may have been Pings.

thanks so much for everyones feedback. I think we will book preiuem pkg. please feel free to give any new advice
thks

Where are my manners?! Welcome to the DIS!!!! :grouphug:

If you have more questions just ask. Don't hesitate to ask on the regular resort board which usually has answers to general resort questions like yours at least in my experience.

Good luck with your vacation...so exciting to book the premium plan. I'll be try to post a premium plan trip report or something to that effect when we have returned...I'd recommend a guidebook or two to help you decide what to do and where to book your meals...and the allears.net website has the menus posted. If you plan to see Cirque de soleil you might want to check the performance dates...they are only performing one day while I'm there in early Dec...there are lots of informed and helpful folks on the Dis, they can answer just about anything...and keep in mind that all of the planning is fun, and worth it...and Normandy was probably invaded on less planning than a WDW vacation!

I just booked a premium plan through AAA. Originially was going to do the platinum plan however really didn't want to stay at the Deluxe lodgings. We were more interested in staying at the Coronado. The difference between the premimum and the platinum (staying at the Animal Kingdom) for a 8 night, 9 day stay was $2066 using the WDW web site booking. After pricing out the various options including any tours not on the preimum plan that we'd take and dinner at Victoria and Alberts, we'd still not make the cost of the preimum plan worth it.

I booked online and then called AAA. The TA on AAA was terrific! She diligently called Disney back to verify information and answer questions as I wanted to be sure that the premium or platinum package I booked through AAA would be the same as if booked online. In the end, I saved about $250 booking through AAA - enough to pay for all the tours we'd take that weren't on the premium plan!

Here's some of the figuring I did to arrive at the premium plan over the other options:

WDW web rate:
8 nights, 9 days and includes WDW insurance
Platinum @ Animal Kingdom standard room: $6437
Premium @ Coronado standard room: $4371
Magic Your Way @ Coronado w/dining plan: $2754
Magic Your Way @ Coronado w/out dining plan: $2147

Costs of tours, shows, and dining we know we want to do for two people:
Dolphins in Depth: $300
Around the World (Segaway): $160
Animal Kingdom Backstage: $130
Cirque du Soleil: $180
Fantasmic dinner: $46
Hoop Dee Doo: $100
Victoria & Alberts: $300

Total: $1216

If I wanted to add in the Illuminations Cruises:

Cruise options:
Illuminations:
Birthday: $258
Breathless: $178
Poontoon: $234

Wishes:
w/out sound: $187
w/sound: $234

(These actually seem to be more advantageous if booked outside the package as you get the whole boat for your party depending on which cruise, from 7 -10 people. Even adding in $400 for the two cruises on the premim package, I'm still $450 below the total cost of the platinum package.)

What about the free rec options I bet you're thinking! Glad you thunk that - the platinum required a stay at a deluxe hotel. The least expensive option was the Animal Kingdom. All other options raised the price by another $1200. (An alternative was the Fort Wilderness Lodge - however, we are two adults with no kids and figured that would be alot noisier given popularity for families). Staying at the Animal Kingdom lodge, with no onsite access to biking, boating, or fishing options would limit our use of such. Seemed unlikely we'd use those options much if they weren't easy to get to.

This ruled out the platinum package. We were more interested in the amenities of the lake property of the Coronado and didn't want the noise potential of a more popular for families lodging choice of Fort Wilderness.

The premium plan gave us all the things we wanted plus the rec options where we wanted to lodge and the advantage of the dining plan that included Fantasmic and Hoop Dee Doo, Cirque and the Animal Kingdom backstage tour.

I also priced out all the tours, shows and special dining we wanted with purchase of tickets through MWR and staying at Shades of Green. Given we spend about $100 a day for food off the dining plan, that worked out to less than $100 difference to staying at the Coronado with the dining plan and resort advantages that come with staying at a WDW property.

In the end, I dropped the insurance and booked the premium plan for $4136.
This is only $166 more than the Magic Your Way w/dining w/parkhopper and more pass for 9 days, 8 nights at the Coronado. That $166 more is easily recouped with the Cirque tickets that come with the premium plan.

Part of our consideration is that since we've been to WDW before, we don't have the vacation pressure of needing to make sure we see and ride everything in all the parks. We like the tours and know we want some time just to take it easy. The rec options are nice but not a priority so they are more of a bonus than an imperative to use. And we love the food! So, the slightly better dining options that the premium plan affords over the dining plan work out for us. Also, when we booked the tours not included, we asked for the AAA discount, that saved us more which isn't figured into the above (because I didn't have those costs when I did the evaluation).

Good luck with your own figuring!

We've been on Silver, Gold, and Plat. plans at one time or another. Each time we priced everything out just as Drayke did in the previous post. Every time we came out ahead $-wise by using the plans. I planned and planned and planned each trip, but for me that's half the fun! We didn't exactly relax, but we had fun ;) We didn't golf or fish, but we did take out the Sea Raycers a number of times, went parasailing, and went horsebackriding - it is very nice to just walk up, they swipe your card, and away you go! We would always see Cirque, take a few tours, and eat sooooooooooo much.

Have a great trip :goodvibes
