Premier Disney Visa worth the $49.00 annual fee?

I'm not much of a credit card user at ALL, but do have one Chase Rewards card that we use and pay off each month to earn reward points. That card currently does NOT have an annual fee.
We recently became DVC owners and so it got me thinking about the Disney Visa card. Since we pay off our cards monthly would this card be worth the $49.00 per year annual fee just so we can earn the Disney rewards? The current offer also had a $100 dollar gift card after first use....
Good idea on no?

Eh, I don't know. I have the Chase Visa that I use to pay for everything, then pay off each month. I rack up the reward points, which I then convert to cash. I use this to pay for our yearly Disney trip (obviously I have to add in savings from other places, but this certainly helps!).

My mom, and Disney-Freak partner-in-crime, has the Disney Visa card. She, too, pays it off each month and is a light-to-moderate card user. The points she gets are nice, but they accrue pretty s-lo-w-l-y. Basically, she uses them to get Disney cards for the kids to use at the park, but they're not huge amounts.

Take a look at the fine print and see how quickly you'll accrue points based on your spending habits. You *might* find that you want to stick with Chase. Just my humble and not-very-enlightened opinion. :goodvibes

When did they start charging annual fees for new cardholders? I don't have an annual fee on my Disney Chase Card.

I have the Disney Visa and it's the regular one with no annual fee. I got a $200 bonus for signing up last year. Since then I've used it just a few times but only got $10 since October. In order to get your money back you'd have to chagre $4900 at 1% to get the fee back and go beyond that to get ahead. You may be better to stick with the card you have. Another option would be to get the Disney Visa and the $100 bonus (you're up $51) then use it for a year and cancel it before the fee is charged the next year.

The card actually has 2% in Disney Dream Reward Dollars on card purchases at gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants and most Disney locations. Earn 1% on all your other card purchases, but yeah I get the idea I would have to charge quite a bit to get the rewards back over the annual fee.... $5000 a year would only add up to 100 in rewards each year at 2% and $10,000 a year at 1%.
The current chase rewards card I have is + 1% (1 pt)/ $1 earned on all purchases + Bonus points from 5% categories such as gas and groceries (changes each quarter). There is also NO annual fee. Might be the better option to stick with what I have. I do however kind of like the idea of keeping it for one year to get the gift card and then canceling it later on if I find the card does not work for my needs.

I would not get the card with an annual fee. You can get the $100 credit deal on the no annual fee card as well, and the benefits between the two cards is really small. If you think the disney visa would work for you, get the no fee card. Otherwise, stick with your chase rewards.

Does anyone know if you sign up for the Premier card with the annual fee and it does not fit your needs can you "downgrade" to the no annual fee card?

The decision to upgrade is largely dependent on your usage. It was a no-brained for us because we put everything on our card and pay it off every month. I took a look at our year end statement and was able to clearly see that it would be beneficial for us to do the upgrade. We typically put around $45,000-$50000 on our DV each year, so we more than make up for the fee. We go to Disney World every fall, so we like having a rewards card where our rewards are dedicated to our trips from the get-go. There may be some other rewards cards with cash back offers that would be equal or slightly higher in terms of rewards, but if we switched to one of those cards we would be tempted to use the money for more practical things than vacations. We signed up when the new card was first announced (we got 5% back in the normal 2% categories for the first 90 days), and we earned enough bonus rewards to cover 5 years of fees, so I have no regrets about upgrading.

I was just looking at my statement online to see if it made sense to switch and everything is listed as a sale or a payment do the break it down on the premier card so I can make sure I am getting the right points from each thing.

Same with us! We charge all of our gas (2% rewards). That alone more than covers the annual fee. Plus, I could now get a card with the Sorcerer :)

meh- IMHO there are far better rewards cards out there than the disney visa- I have one from an older promo (free) when I got 200.00 to sign up...other than that I stick to my southwest visa, it's fast way to rack up points for airfare! or just a plain old cash rewards card gets points faster...again, just my opinion
