We booked this trip before I was pregnant. We are leaving 6 days from now and I'm so nervous I'm about ready to cancel.

I'm currently 13 weeks pregnant and was hospitalized for 3 days about 1.5 wks ago for hyperemesis. I'm doing better, but still limited to about 4 hours a day at work/on my feet and I can eat very little, if anything.

I'm okay with getting a wheelchair while we are there but I'm wondering if I'd qualify for the DAS pass? I know no one can guarantee anything but it would sure help my kids if they didn't have to get out of line 20 or 30 minutes into it because I'm so nauseous I can't do it anymore. (For me heat is a trigger for my nausea/vomiting.)

I know we won't come close to full days at the park, so I hope to have realistic expectations, but I hate to go all that way and spend all that money and be the one that really ruins the trip for my kids because I can't do the lines.

Any thoughts? Words of advice?

No one here can tell you if you will qualify for a DAS. That will be determined by a CM.

What you will need to do is go to guest services at a park and explain to them what your needs are and why you can't wait in a regular queue.

Please keep in mind that most of your heat exposure will not be taking place in queues but rather as you travel around the parks. Frogg Toggs and other cooling cloths as well as a mister might help you some.

Good luck with both your trip and the rest of your pregnancy!

My advice is to skip animal kingdom. You will spend more time in the heat in that park.

If you will be 14/15 weeks during the trip to have may feel ok with some luck. I don't think the DAS can really help you. At EPCOT and MK most if your time in rides and lines will be in air conditioning. I would go to rope drop and schedule fp+ to the best of your ability. If you can go back in the evening, take advantage of getting 4th,5th, 6th etc fp as you are going. Two weeks ago we were getting fp's while heading toward rides and walking right in when we got there. you can also hang out in the play area for dumbo if you need to sit in the cold.

Having suffered from severe hyperemesis myself I think it is pretty risky for you to go at all. You need to take care of yourself and make sure you do not end up dehydrated and back in the hospital. I obviously don't know your condition but even with my easiest pregnancy (still hyperemesis but comparatively mild) I would not have been up for Disney without it causing a relapse. Have you spoken with your doctor about this trip?

If I were you I would cancel. It is going to be very hot just walking between attractions and you are going to have to be careful not to get dehydrated. I'm not usually a "don't go" type of person, but this could really be dangerous for you and the baby.

I would think very seriously if your health and the health of your baby are worth the potential risks.

September is still very hot and humid, no matter what you do there will still be periods of heat and sun. Air conditioning and water are plentiful, but only if you make a point of seeking them out.

I have to ask, why would someone need accommodations to help their kids (who don''the need any accommodations) avoid the standby line? They're not going to give my mom a handicap permit to make it easier for me to park, mthey're going to give her one if she needs it. I would hope Disney isn't giving special line skipping privileges to people who don't need them because it is easier for a third party who just wants things to be easier. That just makes the DAS harder to use for the people who really need it and have no other way to access the attraction.

I 'would not' go!! Very risky in that heat!! Is not worth it - plan for later when you and your family will enjoy it without your health being in jeopardy.

I'm surprised you would even need to ask anyone but yourself this!!

I would also not go. I've seen too many repeat hospitalizations for hyperemesis. (I'm an RN). If u do go, there are many rides u shouldn't do while pregnant. Is there another adult going? If so, then you leaving a line b/c of nausea shouldn't affect the kids if the other adult stays in line w/ them. From what I've seen with other moms, once the nausea hits it doesn't go away quickly so you probley won't be in a condition to try to renter the line. I hope your pregnancy goes well from here on out. Has doctor mentioned a zofran pump?

You'll have to ask a CM about DAS when you get there. Tell them why YOU cannot access the attraction through the normal line.

My unsolicited two cents: You should probably talk to your doctor for advice. I was struck by the line in your post that said you're not eating much of anything at all. Your body is weakened from dehydration and malnorishment. Add that to being out for hours every day in the steamy heat and sun (even in a wheelchair), and you have a recipe for passing out or even winding up back in the hospital. You will need tips and support from your doctor, and a nutritionist if you have one, to help you keep yourself and your baby safe.

Take care of yourself. I hope you'll have a safe and healthy trip. :grouphug:

I had severe hyperemesis, way past 30 weeks - not the norm. I was miserable and very sick for most of my last pregnancy.

You will be at risk for dehydration. That can happen quickly - for some people, it can happen before you even begin to feel thirsty. You will be tired - possibly too tired to enjoy yourself.

People who are not pregnant get dehydrated and sick at Disney - you are at high risk for this.

Another question is this: Will your work continue to be happy to work within your 1/2 day restriction if you are able to fly out to WDW and vacation? I would be worried about that.

I had hypermesis is with my last pregnancy. In your shoes, I would sincerely cancel or postpone. I missed one trip for my daughter's birthday. A few weeks later, I didn't even have ability to go on my birthday during the year you got in free on your birthday or for the equivilant gift card if you had an AP.

Are you on meds? Which one. One of them has side effects that could cause other issues. When I was "better" a week or so after my birthday, I flew to Atlanta for my sister in law's baby shower (last minute miles booking when I thought I could manage.). I ended up with issues and was not able to do anything. It was awful! It was with Zofran and I had not had this issue with the med in prior pregnancies.

So all that said--here is where I would do in your shoes on that trip...
Yes, rent a wheelchair. It gives you a constant place to rest.

Have a barf bag. Sometimes--we just don't make it in time. I have morning sickness now. It isn't hypermesis--but I still puke and sometimes--fall seriously short of an appropriate place.

I would also not require my entire party to leave the line. I don't think the kids should pay the price.

In the end you sound intent on going, but I really don't think it is a good idea at all. I would permit my family to go without me and have done this before.

But if you insist--you hang in the hotel by yourself once you reach your limit and the rest of the family can enjoy a full day.

Keep in mind you are at risk for hospitalization in Florida with your diagnosis.

It certainly stinks. But been there done that. I have plain old (all day) morning sickness and hanging at Disney is not on my radar right now. Smells still bother me. Heat bothers me. Water bothers me. Brushing teeth bothers me. Movement bothers me.

I am in the 'don't go' camp.

I had severe nausea thru my whole pregnancy with my youngest child. I lost weight and didn't get back up to my pre-pregnancy weight (which was on the low side to start with) until my 26th week. I was taking Tigan suppositories to be able to feel well enough to eat anything through most of the pregnancy.

I agree that you are at high risk of being re-hospitalized even if you don't go.
Going would put even more stress and if you are hardly eating anything and are only able to do 4 hours of work a day, a WDW vacation is going to be very difficult and possibly dangerous.
Even the flight can dehydrate people and you would be going to a place where the most common things people go to First Aid for are heat and dehydration related. As was already mentioned, you have a good chance of having problems and possibly being hospitalized while in Florida.

If I were you and still wanted to go, I would check with my doctors and expect them to say no.
If they say no, your choice would be to cancel or have the family go without you, while you stay home and pamper yourself.

If the doctors agree you can go, you've gotten some good suggestions.
You can rent a wheelchair at the parks or one of the off-site places.
To request a DAS, go to Guest Relations at any park. It is important yo know though that DAS can only be used for attractions you will be going on. So, if you have to leave the line, the DAS can't be used for that attraction.
