Last year I got pregnant with my second child but ultimately miscarried. Both my parents commented that they didn't realize how excited they were until after I lost the baby. So here it is a year later and I'm FINALLY pregnant again. What is a fun, special way to tell my parents? This will be their 4th and last grandchild (they do already have one great-grandchild). So give me some ideas that aren't too terribly cheesy....but fun. It's still early but I will go ahead and tell them.....I am optimistic that I will carry this baby full-term and deliver a healthy baby in 9 months!

Buy a shirt for your child that says "I'm the big brother/sister" and let them wear it until your parents notice it. If you live far away, you could mail a picture like this and wait for them to see it.

ETA: Congratulations!

I did this to tell my husband about our 2nd baby and he never figured it out! I had to finally tell him to read the shirt and then I had to explain it to him! :scared:

I gave my parents and inlaws a picture of the first sonogram in a baby themed picture frame. It was soo fun to watch their faces go from really confused to VERY EXCITED!!!!

With our newest DD, DH didn't let me announce until the 3rd trimester since we had 3 losses after DD #1 at various stages of early pregnancy.

It was around the holidays when we announced so I got mom a baby ornament and this poem:

I do not have a face to see,
Or put inside a frame.
I do not have soft cheeks to kiss.
I don't yet have a name.

Not yet can you hold my tiny hands,
Nor whisper in my ear.
It's still too soon to sing a song,
Or cuddle me so near.

But all that will change come this DUE DATE;
When they say I am due.
I am your newest grandchild;
And I can't wait until I meet you!

All I ask between now and then
Is your love for me to grow.
I promise I'll be worth the wait;
Just think of all the joy we'll know!

So as you're waiting patiently,
Please pray lots of prayers for me.
I cannot wait to be a part
Of this wonderful family!

I like the shirt idea! :) I wanted so badly to tell people in a creative way... but I didn't. SO you have to!

my mom moved in with us after my dad passed away, when i got pregnant with ds i wanted to tell dd and grama at the same time.. so we took dd to walmart (grocery shopping) and started like normal buying odds and ends then as we went to the grocery section we hit the baby stuff and started picking up stuff and putting it in the cart... diapers, wipes, a cute neutral outfit, paci's, a blanket.. she was clueless. so we finished shopping, went home and unloaded all the groceries and stuff. my mom asked who all the baby stuff was for and that's when dd realized what was going on.. i had just had a loss about 2 months prior and dd knew about me being pregnant so she was super excited!!!

We were in Disney when we found out I was prego... my first... We went to the Hanes Create a Tee store and got 6-9 mon shirts (smallest they made) got them in gray got disney world (two different) pic on both (one for each set)then had it say I love my grandparents....
We gave them in the bags from there... we "told" them seperately.... my mom got it right away and was thrilled.... his parents open it and first said you gave this to the wrong person its for Bianca (2 y/o niece) we told them no, then his dad said you guys arent preguanant and we just nodded they were over the moon.... we had told them that we werent even going to start trying for another year! My only regret is that I wish I would have thought to take pictures. :goodvibes

Our 2nd DS was due a week after DS#1's 7th birthday so, at the three month mark, I had DS call everyone and say "Guess what I'm getting for my birthday?" At first, most people thought the kid was crazy thinking about his birthday so early and played along - boy were they surprised when he said, "A baby brother or sister!"

It was a really fun way to announce our pregnancy.

These are great ideas!!!

I sent out hand made mothers day cards....I had a picture of my DD 3 on the front and in print above her name it said "I know a secret" and on the inside it said, "I'm going to be a big sister"

We live across the country from all of our family, so it was a pretty special keep sake!!!

When I found out I was pregnant with DS, It was around Easter time and I found a picture of a stick figure with a triangle body and inside the triangle was a stick baby. I put it in an easter egg and wrote MOM on it. When she found it she opened it and looked at it for a few minutes and then figured it out....Was really funny watching her.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Here is one way that I have loved:

Send your parents some flowers, actually send them only 'baby's breath', you know the small white flower that usually accents roses. Then in it place a card that reads something like " in 9 months, your life will be touched by the breath of a baby". They will open the flowers and only see the baby's breath and they may get it right away or be a bit confused. Once they read the card it will all make sense!!

Best of luck to you and I wish you a very happy and uneventful 9 months!!!

First congratulations and prayers for a safe and healthy pregnancy!!
We told my M/FIL by giving him a picture frame with a card in the photo spot saying.. " Picture to arrive on or around the end of october" My dad got the same thing, although it wasn't his birthday. For my mom, she opened a " Dale Jr baby outfit. SHe is a big fan. At first, she didn't get it and then her eyes got as big as saucers. Very cool for her!!
Had a girlfriend tell DH that she was preggo by putting the test next to a baby toy and a Heinikin. Just thank that is so funny!! Had to share!:laughing:

when my DW and i found out she was pregnant, it was very close to mothers' day. We kept it secret from both our mothers until the mothers day family gathering. for mother's day we bought my mother and mother in law a dual picture frame. On one side was a picture of our older daughter and in the other we wrote "grandchild to be named later". It took a second for them to get it, then OMG!!!

I had a friend who didn't tell anyone and then they sent a card where he was holding a sign that said baby pointing to her belly. He was cheesy and grinning with a thumbs up and she had a surprised look on her face! I thought it was an extremely amazing way to let everyone know.

I did this to tell my husband about our 2nd baby and he never figured it out! I had to finally tell him to read the shirt and then I had to explain it to him! :scared:

:laughing::rotfl2:, I could just imagine his reaction!!!

Congratulations, wishing you a healthy pregnancy.

When I got preg with DD, DS was 2. I got him a solid blue shirt and ironed on the letters "Big Brother"
Under the writing I sewed on two bumblebees. (2 bee)

So if you read into the message it meant, big brother to be.

Then we invited my parents to dinner. My mom got it right away but it took my dad awhile.

Have fun and good luck.

Thanks for all the ideas. I love the "Big Sister" T-shirt idea but it wouldn't work for us. We won't be telling DD until we have at least seen the heartbeat on ultrasound - maybe not until after the first trimester. And since she is six and reading now I couldn't pull that off. I will think of something though.

When we found out we were prego with DS, we waited as long as we could to tell anyone. We had a miscarriage w/ no. 1, and were afraid to say anything. But we had to finally say something because, at the time, DH and I held an annual wine tasting at our house the weekend around Valentine's day. Since I knew I couldn't drink, I figured it would be obvious that something was up.

So I baked some baby related cookies (bottles, strollers, rocking horses...). Wrapped them up and bought Valentine's cards for the grandparents. My MIL and FIL were there with their spouses, but I had to mail my dad's because he is out of state. Shortly after starting the wine tasting, I went and got the packages for MIL and FIL and gave them to them. The cards were addressed to "grandma" and "grandpa" respectively, and signed "love baby (fill in last name) see you in September". FIL opened his a little faster and was pretty calm about it, gave me a quiet congratulations and hug (he knew my MIL hadn't finished reading hers yet). At first MIL was like ????? She thought it was a card from our 2 cats! Until she got to the see you in September part. It took a minute to sink in, but then she nearly knocked over the table with the wine on it to get to me...nearly knocked me over, too! It was pretty funny. Her husband was still clueless, thought the cookise were cute and tasted good...then he looked at them again, and he finally got it! It was pretty funny. Got it all on video, too!

Not sure what we would do to announce a 2nd, if we ever get there...
