My bridesmaids have their dresses and today i was informed that df sister is about a month pregnant. The dress we got is not going to fit her obviously when my november wedding comes around since she will be 8 months pregnant. (It is a form fitting dress from davids bridal)

Does anyone have any advice for the dress or how to handle this situation?

Can you call DB and maybe get a bigger size for her and have it tailored when the time gets closer!!!

Good luck getting anything exchanged at Davids Bridal...From what I understand, they rarely do that sort of thing, they may in this type of situation though. I would tell them immediately and see about getting a maternity gown for your DF's sis. She'll definitely need one by then, and that's if she can even make it! My MOH told me about a month or two in that she was definitely preg. and she was going to be about 8 mo preg. at the time, then as it got closer and we got the other girls dresses, she informed me that they moved her due date up to 3 weeks after the wedding...She's due too soon to travel!!! You might want to make sure you can be sure she'll even be able to come! And definitely do whatever you plan to do soon so that they have options instead of paying for two gowns...Good luck! :thumbsup2

You can always do this with her dress

I'm sorry, but I really just could not resist!

For some real info, I was just looking on David's website and they do have maternity dresses. They may not match exactly, but its worth a shot :)

I agree... 8 months pregnant is tough... she might not be able to come. I'm not sure if you're supposed to fly in your 3rd trimester. This might be a silly question, but does she still want to be a bridesmaid? I'm not sure if it might be too tiring for her to stand up at the ceremony and for pictures?

I was in this situation last May, 6 months pregnant with my son. I had already purchased my gown, then found out I was pregnant. They wouldn't cancel (small boutique) and I had to buy a maternity gown in the same style.
So you may have to present that to her as an option. Davids may allow her to exchange for a maternity, but I'd call right away. Once the dress is in production there is no turning back.

On the up side, I have a gorgeous maternity bridesmaid gown for sale! ;)

A woman I work with was in another co-worker's wedding very pregnant. She wore a simple black dress with a wrap in the same color as the BM dresses. It looked very nice.

Thanks for your suggestions. Davids Bridal, will not exchange it since she already has the dress. They were really kind of rude about it, they of course suggested her getting a maternity dress, since they claim that the dress we have already has no way of being altered for a pregnant woman. Im just not sure how getting a different dress will look with the other dresses.

Thanks for all the advice so far. princess:

I went to a wedding in December and one of the bridesmaids was very pregnant. At the rehersal, I thought she was going to pop right there. It turns out that she was only 7 months pregnant. Poor woman. One child, but she looked like she was having triplets. She also looked ridiculous in the dress. She had the same style as all the other bridesmaids (the junior maid had spaghetti straps), but I think I've gone camping in smaller tents than her dress. It was strapless, and for all the others, it was fitted and flowing from the hips (very nice). On the pregnant bridesmaid, it looked like a tablecloth draped over her.

Davids Bridal should be able to change the size for you. They did for someone in my party and the wedding was less than a month away.

no advice on the already bought dress, just an anecdote.

My dear sister was my matron of honor-8 months pregnant and I wouldn't have had it any other way. The pictures look great and its a special time for both of us.

When I found out I was pregnant for a friends wedding I ordered the same material from the designer. I had a dress maker make me a dress to match the other girls. (I was due in 2 weeks) Maybe if she could get the material she could have someone else alter the dress she already purchased. Good luck.

I would have them order extra material. They made the alterations for a pregnant bridesmaid in an wedding I was in a few years ago. Also, all the girls had them save extra material from our dresses. But they were not that tight and had an empire waist (I think that's the right word to use there)

If you don't care for the maternity dresses that David's has then what about looking for a dress with an empire waist that is simialr to the other dreses. She would just need to order it in a larger size, and it may or may not need tailoring. You could look at a variety of dress makers for something similar in design and color. If the dress is flowy (is that a realy word?) then it should be able to fit over the bump without too many issues. Remember it's ok if she looks a little different from everyone else, as she wil have the same flowers.
