Hi! I will be 14 weeks pregnant when we go to DL. This is probably the only time we will go there as we are from the east coast and go to WDW. What rides should I absolutely positively NOT go on in DL. I am hoping no one write Indiana Jones....

Thanks!

I would absolutely avoid Indy -- sorry. All that bumping and jerking around I would stay away from. Anything with a height requirement (except maybe Soarin') IMO. You may also want to avoid Autopia - I always seem to get bumped from behind on that ride.

Great advice. I too am pregnant and am trying to refresh my mind about which rides to skip. I also went to Disneyland during my last pregnancy and if I remember correctly I skipped all rides with a ht. restriction, but did go on Soarin.' It's just not worth the risk.

i COMPLETELY agree with the PP. if there is anyway that any pregnant woman would go on indy or anything with jolts and jerks like that, they are extremely selfish and a non-caring mother. the best thing to do OP is ask ur OB and they will explain why. the biggest risk here is placental abruption. with all the jerking and jolting, the placenta can detatch from the uterine wall, thus causing miscarriage. sorry if you will have to miss some fav. rides, but i think your trip would be far worse if you have to rush to a hospital and end your trip with a miscarriage or partial placental seperation in which you will be placed bedrest. this is not something that will always happen, of course, but the risk is there, and why risk your babies life for anything, agreed? it is the same if you fall, just from a fall even if you dont hit the belly, if your body jerks extremely hard you can suffer placental abruption in that way as well. the risk is especially great being that you will be not too far out of the first trimester. youll have to save the bigger rides from the next trip hun, sorry, it stinks but is SO worth it!

I would also avoid the rides that spin you. The force on a baby floating in fluid is not good. Off the top of my head, I'm thinking Roger Rabbit, and possibly even TSMM. I'm very conservative though.

The general suggestion is to avoid any ride that has a height restriction. At the park, any ride that shouldn't be ridden by a pregnant woman has signage accordingly. The DL website also mentions this under each ride's description. I'm sorry, I know it's a bummer and that it eliminates A LOT of rides, but I couldn't live with myself if I ignored the warnings and something ended up happening with the pregnancy...

I never go on Indy no matter how far along I am at the time. I really enjoy the times I am not because I do enjoy it. I agree I would not ride Roger Rabbit, Teacups, or any roller coaster. It is still a great time. You can really enjoy looking at baby clothes etc. too. I really enoy myself pregnant or not.

OP they will have info at every ride. Of course it's your choice to ride or not but I do not think you should ride any ride that specifically says "pregnant women should not ride" and I know that Indy has that warning, as does Space and Autopia at the least. There will be plenty you can do, don't push it.

I went to Disneyland in the 13th week pregnant with the son I lost. I listened to my Perinatologists advice, no rough rides like Indy, but spinning or going upside down were okay. He said the only risk was of placental abruption.

My son died with the cord around his neck 5 times.

Don't risk it, it is not worth it. I will forever believe that riding those rides (I rode Screamin', ToT, and Space Mtn) twisted him in his cord, causing his death.

So sorry for your loss :sad1:

I'm so sorry, but I'm also very glad you decided to post this. Since I joined the board, quite a few pregnant women have asked this question and some are not quite as accepting of the advice that they shouldn't ride the rough rides. Hopefully reading your experience will prevent this from happening to others. :grouphug:

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. :sad1: Like sonnyjane said, thanks for posting your experience as sort of a wake-up call to people. This question does get posted fairly often and sometimes there are people who don't like to hear that they shouldn't ride on certain rides. As you said, it's not worth it. I think people (myself included) tend to take it for granted that they will have healthy children.

LavenderPeach.
You are absolutely right. Hopefully other Mama's to be won't end up in this situation. You know if it is not something you would take a newborn on then you probably shouldn't ride it. There are still so many things you can do at Dl pregnant. Also during my last pregnancy we went to DL very early on. I did have a lot of spotting. Scared to death I was on my way to a miscarriage. I learned to slow down a lot through this experience. Started taking breaks, drinking more water etc. I feel very fortunate that I did not lose her.
If you just pay attention to your body and rest enough DL can be great to visit while with child. It probably also helps if you are a younger mom maybe? I was 38 last time not as easy as 34, 32, 26, or 25. :confused3
Who Knows?

I went to Disneyland when I was 8 weeks pregnant (trip was planned before the timing of the pregnancy, obviously :) and it wasn't terribly fun. But NOT because I couldn't ride the "fun" rides. Mostly because I was so sick anyways! Otherwise we still had a good time, and got to see Disney in a different way. The only "height restriction" ride I went on was Soarin'. Had been on it many times and was sure there wasn't really any danger. When I went back a few years later, I was that much happier that I got to ride everything, but I agree, it's so not worth the possible risks to that sweet baby! (Actually just last night I dreamed we were going to Disney and Universal Studios, and I was kind of bummed to remember I am pregnant... <17 weeks>) :) Have a fabulous trip anyway, and hit Fantasyland first thing one morning!

I am so, so sorry to hear of your loss. Nobody should ever feel that kind of heartbreak.

I went to DL when I was about 6 months pregnant (2 summers ago) and I didn't do anything with a height restriction except for Soarin'. I did go on TSMM and the teacups (I know, no height restrictions - but those are the other two I can think of as iffy). Oh and I didn't want to go on it anyways, but they won't let you ride Autopia.

But I honestly still had a wonderful time, so it's not that bad.

My wife was about 7 months pregnant when we went. She avoided anything that would shake her or jerk her around:

BTMRR
Matterhorn
Splash Mountain
Indy
Mulholland Madness
ToT
Space Mt
Screamin
Star Tours
Autopia

She went on, in addition to all the more mild rides:
Teacups
TSMM
Mr Toad (kind of bumpy, I didn't want her to ride it)
Soarin'

Good rides for a rest:
IASW
the train
Jungle Cruise
monorail

The key is to talk to your dr before you go. Each pregnancy is different so they might have different suggestions for you. And don't forget to rest, eat, drink plenty of water, and have a great time.
