We are going back to WDW in May. I'll be 5 months pregnant at the time. Any advice from BTDT Moms?

We went Jan 2007 when I was 5 months along. We called it the Park Bench and Bathroom Break Tour! We took touring easy and were on the dinning plan. I had a plan that we basically followed but there were a couple days that I either didn't want to get up early or needed a longer nap then what I had planned for. We missed a couple ADR but we just changed things around as we needed. Be flexible. I had planned to take a break after lunch everyday from the parks to nap/rest in the hotel room but I didn't and wished I had. I'd be feeling fine at the time we were supposed to leave for the rest so I would decide not to leave but then I would be dragging a couple hours later so I really wish I would have stuck to the nap in the middle of the day plan. (that is one mighty fine run-on sentence) I think I would have had more energy at night. I brought my body pillow and a blanket with me which was really nice. My DH and I actually slept in different beds because I was being cheap and didn’t want to pay for the King bed upgrade. Bring a nightlight for your middle of the night pee.
I basically rode all the rides that didn’t have a height restriction. No roller coasters, no spinning rides. I did ride the safari ride at AK. I asked to sit in the front row the first time and I was fine. Too fine in fact. When we rode it later in the day I didn’t bother to ask for the front and got the second from the back row. Ugh. Very bumpy and not fun.
We brought my son his first Mickey Mouse stuffy there, and his first teddy bear in world showcase. (plus a lot more, I had more fun shopping for the baby then for me !!!)
We also went to Sea World. That was fun (a lot of walking)

I’ll post more if I think of anything or you can PM me with any questions. I’d love to help.

Thanks! That was great info. Our trip last year DD was 17months, so we learned to be flexible. We all enjoyed the mid-afternoon nap too. :)

I'll have to pick your brain...we're planning on going in November 2008 with our son who will be 18 months old. I will be my first time at Disney with a little one.

Hi! I'll be around 6 months pregnant when we go in March. I have never been to WDW while pregnant so this thread is perfect! Its good to know that the Safari ride is OK as long as I sit in the front. I am worried about tiring out but I just started walking on the treadmill for 30mins a day just to get in the habit of walking. I dont know if that will help or not.

I'd say a real important thing to remember is to drink alot of water. Have a water bottle with you at all times.

Congrats first of all to you and your family! I was 4 1/2 months preggers in 2003 and I had a blast! I did alot actually, I wasn't showing yet really either, I think I looked bloated from a milkshake? I was able to ride everything almost(no coasters, except splash mountain). I can't tell you that is was a waste, because it was a blast! I had alot of energy as well, however, it was totally a HUGE EXCUSE for me to EAT everything in site!!! YUMMY I still remeber just worrying about what I was going to eat next, hey couldn't let my little wonder miss out on all those goodies........Good Luck to you, don't forget to hit Goofy's Candy Co. at Downtown DIsney!!!!!! A preggo's dream!!!!! :cloud9:

Hi I went to WDW for the first time when I was five months pregnant. Don't forget the sun block! I missed the back of my legs and got a burn, and when your on your feet in the hot sun you can swell and a swollen sun burn is the worst. I didn't do any coasters but was able to do most rides and all the shows. Have fun relax and enjoy yourself

Oh yes walk before you go. I didn't and wished I had. I had muscle aches after a few days because I sat at work all day and never exercised. I won't make that mistake again.

Along with the water, have a snack in your pack just incase you need to eat now

My doctor gave me a copy of my records to take with me. He said he makes all of his patients take a copy for vacations.

Just be sure to take a lot of breaks and rest when you're feeling tired so that you don't overdo it. We planned a few mornings of relaxation so that we could just sleep in and then take our time getting ready.
I really enjoyed WDW pregnant and felt there was still so much to do.
Have fun!

We went when I was 4 months pregnant. I didn't have any problems but then I was used to chasing my 2 year old DD around all day. I think it depends on your body and how active you were before pregnancy. Drink lots of water and rest when you need to. We didn't get up really early or stay out late. As for rides, I didn't do any roller coasters. I did go on the safari at AK. Do what you feel is right when it comes to rides; don't let anyone make decisions for you.

I went in May 5 mo preg with DS #2. It was so hot and I fought so much with DS3 over the misting fan that DH plopped down a 2nd $18 for another one. You may want to bring one from home. I also brought a Britta water bottle and refilled it from sinks. Keep hydrated!! I also went 4 mo preg with twins and terrible morning, noon and night sickness (lasted the whole preg!) Still managed to have fun, but I remember flying out of Food Rocks to throw up!! Enjoy!!:cloud9:
pirate: pirate: pirate: pirate:

I was about 3 months pregnant in May 05 when we went. pp is so correct, bring a mist bottle from home, we got two from WalMart, one leaked a little so I also use saran wrap when clsoing it on the screwpart, look out for bad design, the screwpart was on the bottom of that one, not the top :confused3 you may want to look at this when purchasing.
I was sick for the entire nine months also so tried to scout out all bathrooms ahead of time and which ones were CLOSED...:scared1: you may also just have to go more, I did
DRINK DRINK DRINK, I also brought a couple waterbottles and would fill them around the park
Better to be at disney and pregnant than home and pregnant I say!!
go, enjoy, have fun!!! :grouphug:

Feel free to PM me. I learned a lot that trip! We had a blast and it was so fun to watch our DD in WDW!!

Thanks everyone. We are pretty active and I'm chasing a 20 month old all day.

I am already looking forward to Goofy's. That is some good stuff, prego or not!

I went last June while 9 months pregnant and chasing a 21 month old. :-) And I had a blast and would do it again in a heartbeat! Best tips - bring lots of water (of course I was there in the heat of June, but I'm sure this applies any time). Wear comfortable shoes and clothes. This really helps in keeping you happy and walking. If you start cramping, just relax, take a break, and drink a bunch of water. Basically, listen to your body. AS far as rides go, I went on everything my son did (basically everything without a height restriction)- that included the AK safari ride.

I went to WDW in July 2007 while I was 7 1/2 months pregnant. We took it easy since the July heat is just horrible. We did most of the park hopping at night when the parks were less crowded and little bit cooler. During the day, we did some shopping in DTD for my DD, hang out in the pool (Pools are great and super relaxing during pregnancies). Just listen to your body. As for the rides, I tried sticking to the "Kiddie Rides." I think my most "active" ride was Pirates. I hope this helps somewhat.

Congratulations on the baby!!!! I was just about to post the same question! I will be 5 1/2 months along when we go in May! We are going with my 18 mo, so I knew we would be taking it easy, but have been nervous about going pregnant, so I am glad you asked!

You can look at the park maps for the attractions with warnings - they are marked with a red triangle on the map and also on a sign at the entrance to the queue.
For Epcot here are the attractions with warnings:
  • Mission Space the sign outside the attraction says that pregnant women are advised not the ride both the more tame (green side) and the more wild (orange side)
  • Test Track
For Magic Kingdom:
  • Splash Mountain
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
  • Tomorrowland Indy Speedway
  • Space Mountain
  • Goofy's Barnstormer (this doesn't have a triangle warning sign on the map, but does say that pregnant women should not ride)
For Disney Studio
  • Star Tours
  • Rock N Roller Coaster
  • Tower of Terror
For Animal Kingdom:
  • Kilimanjaro Safari
  • Kali River Rapids
  • Expedition Everest
  • Primeval Whirl
  • Dinosaur

Soarin' doesn't have any warnings that would affect pregnancy; just heights and possibly motion sickness.

The Safari and Kali River Rapids are listed because you can get unexpected hard bumps and drops during the course of the ride. Many people suggest that the Safari is less bumpy closer to the front, but it is still bumpy. We sit in the front seat because youngest DD needs to stay in her wheelchair; we still get bounced around a lot, enough that I am glad she has a seat belt in her wheelchair, because she is jolted side to side. How bumpy it is all depends on which ruts your ride car hits. I have also ridden it without DD, and have found the farther back seats are not that much more bumpy (unless you are talking way in the back).

G forces are the reason for not riding Splash Mountain. The big drop takes you down at a very extreme angle at a high rate of speed (I think you get to 40 mph). At the bottom, your ride car stops abruptly. That sort of combination of fast speed drop at an extreme angle and then abrupt stop can theoretically cause placental abruption - where the placenta actually peels away from the wall of the uterus. That's the main reason for warnings at Splash Mountain.
For rides like Dinosaur, Star Tours, Test Track, Big Thunder Mountain you are not moving that fast, but experience sudden changes of direction that jerk you around a lot.

I went to Disney when I was 5 months pregnant in 2007. It was just me and DH. We had an amazing time and just kept the pace slow and relaxed. I went on everything w/o a warning (and I did the Safari, though did find it very bumpy), and for those that I couldn't go on but hubby really wanted to (only Splash Mountain) he got a fastpass so I didn't have to wait for him very long...I was busy eating while he was riding
I was always VERY exhausted by the end of the night, and I occassionally napped on rides (Ellen's energy adventure and the show at the American Pavillion).
I would have to say just keep it relaxed, enjoy the atmosphere, and take breaks whenever you think you need them. And enjoy all the incredible snacks!!!

We are going back in 4 weeks with DD who is now 17 months old and we're very excited about her first Disney vacation!! pixiedust:

We went in April/May of '06 when I was also 5 months pregnant. Wear comfortable shoes, bring extra socks in your bag and take rests if you need to. I found that the weather was great at that time and it was really nice.
None of the rides that were recommended I stay away from were anything I'd normally do anyway :-)
Have a great trip!
