Okay, so I started out overweight with my pregnancy. Due to severe morning sickness, I lost 18 lbs during my first trimester. I maintained my weight during most of my second trimester. Now, in the last 4 weeks (weeks 22 - 26), I've gained 6 pounds! :earseek:

I'm afraid to go to the doctor next week, I'll probably get yelled at by my doctor. Is this much of a rapid weight gain in a month normal? I haven't really changed my eating habits...much. I am eating more complete meals, where I was only eating about 1/2 - 3/4 of a meal before.

Dont worry about it. I lost a little weight during my second trimester. And I have gained most of my weight in the thrid trimester. Everyone carries differently and gains and loses the weight at different times.

Your doctor wont yell at you. Like I said, everyone carries and gains differntly. :sunny:

He certainly (or she) won't yell at you. :D
They are concerned about the baby more than what your weight is. They always told me that. I gained 60lbs with each pregnancy. It always piled on at the end. Both babies, very healthy and no problems (except still working on getting the weight off). 6lbs in a month is a bit, but you may be swelling and most due to water retention. Drink lots of fluids. Don't worry, it will be just fine. :teeth:

I was overweight when I got pregnant and every month for the first 6 months I lost weight..I'm not talking one or two pounds..I am talking 10 pounds in month two and three and 5 pounds a month for months 4 ,5 and 6....I was getting yelled at every month I went to the Dr...he sent me for THREE Glucose Tolerance Tests and some other blood work....I just couldn't gain weight, I had NO morning sickness and I was eating more than I ever did..I actually was getting Friendlys large cyclones every night to try to gain and just lost! I WISH I had that problem other than that one time being pregnant
I don't think 6 pounds in that one month is excessive especially being you lost the first trimester anyway! I know people who gained 30-40 pounds during their pregnancy!

You won't get yelled at. I gained 8 lbs in one month (July). Like you, I had really bad morning sickness early on and hadn't really gained up until then. Now it's just piling on, but the doctor says that baby is actually pretty big, so it's not all just me. Do you know what you're having? I've been told that this baby may be bigger since boys tend to be larger than girls.

How did you do on your glucose test? That could also be a factor if the baby is getting large fast in the last trimester.

Most of that weight gain is actual baby weight gain. They start putting on pounds during the last 2 months, most especially the last month.:)

I gained a lot during my pregnancy...50 pounds.

I had lost 20 pounds right before I got pregnant and I gained that back VERY quickly. I guess once I stopped following my diet and stopped exercising as much, it all came back.

You shouldn't get yelled at. I gained about 45 pounds for each of my 2 pregnanies. The doctor just told me it's more I'll have to lose afterwards. With each pregnany I added 20 pounds.
I remember the nurses freaking out more than the doctor!

you sound exactly like me in my first pregnancy - I lost 11 pounds the first trimester b/c I was so sick they had to put me on medicine to control the morning sickness and then once I did I put on 8 pounds in my 6th month - my mother was apalled b/c back in her day - you could only gain so much -

my doctor was actually happy to see some weight gain -

I ended up gaining 11 pounds total in the pregnancy and when she was born I weighed 23 pounds less than the day I got pregnant!

Don't worry about the weight gain - as long as the baby is growing you should be fine!

I hated stepping on the scale! But I remember being told weight gain of one pound a week was normal - so 6 in 4 weeks is not so bad. And I lost weight at the beginning too.

The concern at the end of my pregnancy was the bloating - you couldn't tell I had ankles. I had a lot of water weight and my doctor was concerned about preclampsia (sp?) but I learned that staying off my feet wasn't enough - I actually had to lie down with my feet raised higher than my head.

I don't think you'll have a problem. Good luck and congrats!

:D

Ummm, I gained a lot with each pregnancy, from 43 to 50 lbs. I must admit, I ate when I was pregnant. I ate anything that didn't move...and if it did move, I hunted it down and ate it! J/K! I lost most of it afterwards. If I had cravings I gave in! Oh well, pregnancy doesn't last forever.

Normal weight gain for a woman of average weight is around 3 lbs in the 1st trimester and just under 1 lb per week for the rest of the pregnancy. You could be retaining fluid and not know it. Even though you started out overweight, you still need to gain weight during your pregnancy. I think it's something like 15-25 lbs, depending on how overweight you are.

If you're not overindulging, I wouldn't worry! Just concentrate on eating healthy and don't get too hung up on the numbers!

I started at 113lbs. Went down to 104. By my 9th month I was at 147-all baby and breasts (went from small A to big C. ;) )

Don't be worried about 6 lbs. You will probably gain more. :)

I did the same thing. Gained 50 pounds with the first baby. She was 8 pounds 10 ounces. I went right back into my pre-pregnancy clothes 2 days after having her. NEVER DID THAT AGAIN! I had the doctors telling me I was gaining too much weight and, I'm sorry, but I did not care. I was eating healthy and I thought the baby could use whatever she needed.

Thanks for the posts. My doctor only wanted me to gain 15 pounds for the pregnancy, but that was before I lost the 18. So, now I don't know if it's 15 pounds or 33 pounds.

I have my glucose test on Tuesday, so hopefully it'll come out fine. I'm worried about that since my weight makes me more prone to GD.

I really wish I had lost weight before getting pregnant. Now that I'm putting on weight, it's getting much tougher to get around and feel good about myself and I'm only 25 weeks! By the time I'm 40 weeks, I'll be bedridden!

That's too funny! I had a little pregnancy scare a couple months ago and my biggest fear of it all was that I am just to FAT to get pregnant now! I'm now 10 pounds heavier than I was the day I deliverd my last baby 5 years ago. :(
I decided to try to lose some weight so that if we DO have an accident I won't be starting out so fat already!! LOL

If you knew my situation, you would know that another baby is the LAST thing we need right now, or probably ever actually.
My sister laughed at me because my biggest concern was my weight!

lol - it's seems a lot of us did the same loss/gain routine.

true story:

with my first daughter I was so extremely health conscious but had morning, noon, and night sickness. I started out a size 8, lost tons of weight, then started gaining in the third trimester. The thing was I didn't look pregnant. By the eight month I was still wearing regular clothes only a size or two bigger. One morning I woke up and dd had moved during the night - suddenly I had a big pregnant belly and no clothes to wear. I finally put on a stretch skirt and an oversized shirt and went to work. People who I saw on a regular basis but weren't close to (security guard, restaurant employee, etc.) were shocked that I suddenly "became" pregnant. I actually had one guy ask me if I stuffed a pillow under my shirt as a joke on someone.

1st. pregnancy I gained a whopping 75lbs.
2nd pregnancy I gained a whopping 76lbs.

The funny thing is that with the first I had twins and gained a pound less then when I only carried 1 baby.

I was younger then and lost all of the weight for both pregnancy rather quickly. It's only now, the last few months that I'm carrying around an extra 15 lbs.

During both pregnancies I ate everything and anything I wanted. I never concerned myself with weight gain. I guess when your younger, things like that don't bother you. Anyway, there were plenty of times I had to cancell my monthly visit for a few days for fear the dr. would have a heart attack.

6 lbs? I gained more than that on my cruise last week and Im not pregnant. Definitely dont worry about that. ;)

I went from 115 to 165 when I was pregnant. I was so traumatized! The dr kept telling me not to worry, that I was underweight to begin with, but gaining 50 lbs in 9 months was really hard to adjust to! I think that's one reason that I just really hated being pregnant. I mean, I wanted the baby--I just didn't want all the stuff that went with being pregnant!

I hope you have an easy pregnancy and birth--I don' t think your dr will yell at you!

Gaining 13 lbs in my fifth month of preg. was the first sign of an inactive thyroid for me. No one caught it! Might want to ask for a thyroid test if you feel you are gaining weight for little reason. (I didn't increase eating during that month.)
