Pregnancy question

I need to vent and hoping someone can help me. I am approximately 11 weeks pregnant and miserable every day. First it was morning sickness, which is getting slightly better (I think I am learning to control it better, but I still throw up at least twice a day). Now the problem is hunger! I can eat a good meal, be full and an hour later, be hungry again. And it is not normal hungry, it is so hungry I feel like I am going to throw up again.

The trouble is I work full time and cannot be eating every single hour. We get our breaks at work ever 2 to 2 1/2 hours and I always snack on every break. But it doesn't tide me over.

My friend suggested maybe I'm not eating hearty enough food--I eat a lot of fruit and yogurt because when I had terrible morning sickness that was all my stomach would tolerate. She said I needed more carbs.

Does anyone have some insight or suggestions? Thanks.

Try adding more protein. Cheese, peanut butter, etc. It really helped me with the hunger and the morning sickness. Remember: This too shall pass.

I was sick with both of mine morning noon and night from the minute I got pregnant until 6 weeks afterwards. I feel your pain. Here is what helped me.

Nuts. Have a ziplock baggie of whatever kind of nuts you like best, for me it was almonds and walnuts. Keep it by your bed. Eat some right before you go to bed. Eat some before your feet even hit the floor in the morning. Keep them in your purse. Munch on them when you are feeling the SLIGHTEST but sickish.

WATER. STAY HYDRATED. If you are vomiting you will get dehydrated. Being dehydrated will make you vomit more. It will be a vicious cycle that will get you nowhere but the ER sitting in between a guy with a bleeding colostomy bag and a drag queen who looks like Tom Selleck. (long story). Drink more than you think you need to. Right now your body is trying to make extra blood. It needs water for this. Water Water WATER!

I'm sorry you're not feeling well- I agree with what's already been posted. Maybe you could talk to your supervisor, I think they would rather have you at work and taking some quick snack breaks rather than sick and not working at your full potential.

I second the protein... When I was pregnant with DD, she was a protein hog, and only if I ate enough protein was I able to stave off the nausea. I ate protein bars (which tasted awful!), TONS of eggs, lots of seafood, etc. because she wouldn't let me eat meat, but it really helped.

Yep you need some protein in those snacks. All you are eating is sugar!!!!! and your Blood glucose is spiking immediately after break and then plummeting just as quickly! Eat something that will stay with your body and keep your glucose levels more even between breaks.

Welcome to pregnancy, I think being pregnant is the biggest thing that people go into with rose colored glasses. It isn't always the happy glowing "mother earth" time that so many women, TV, public in general portrays and makes everyone think it is.

Oh, I am so sorry!! Early pregnany is ROUGH! I was violently ill with both of my girls. Unfortunately my stomach couldn't handle food at all, so what worked for me wouldn't work for you. I used to carry around a baggie of dry Cinnamon Life cereal, and lemon hard candies. That would be my food for the day.

If hunger is your issue, I agree that protein is what you need. Walk through the grocery store and look for anything with protein that tempts you. Cheese comes in all kinds of easy, appealing snacking-on-the-go packages now. Pair that with some crackers or nuts and maybe some fruit and hopefully that will tide you over.

The second trimester is coming soon! That's the honeymoon period!

I agree w/ everyone else, increase protein & stay hydrated.
During my first trimester I always felt ravenous and nauseous at the same time.

At 11 weeks you are nearing the point when morning sickness wanes for most woman. Hang in there & congrats on the pregnancy!

You sound exactly like me a month ago!! The huge hunger lasted about a month for me. What I did was make sure that I had protein for breakfast (easy since if I still eat mainly carbs for breakfast I am back on the nausea medicine by noon) and then snacks on protein. Nuts of all kinds were helpful to tide me over until my next meal. Also, stuff that I could eat at my work station (nutrigrain bars, granola bars, string cheese, fruit cups, etc) or on a quick bathroom break. I still can't go more than a couple of hours without eating something, but am a whole lot better, so there is hope.

Have you talked to your doctor about all the nausea? I ended up on Zofran, and while it didn't completely take it away, it has helped to where I am not throwing up every day anymore.

As another poster said, stay hydrated. I couldn't drink water for months because even thinking about water made me nauseous, but I was able to drink juices (especially orange, cran grape, and grape juices) and sweet tea. Thankfully, I can now drink anything again.

I agree about the protein. My little almost 10 pounder had me hungry 24-7. Seriously-- I'd wake up in the middle of the night to eat!

Congrats!!

Thanks guys. You are right, I am eating too much sugar with the fruit and yogurt. I really need to add more protein and maybe more carbs.

I had to take phenegren when I was pregnant with dd4 and it did not harm her at all...she was a healthy 7 lbs and perfect! but I was so sick it hurt ...

Protein. Mix protein and fiber filled non processed carbs to hold you over. It really will help. It may even help with the other nausea. Although I had to forego chicken through all three of my pregnancies. Ick.

Take care.

yes to the protein, and maybe a baggie of whole grain cereal or something similar?

what do you do for work? you can't keep something in your pocket to just pop in your mouth? (almost as you would gum or mints?) Like little cheese cubes, granola squares, etc? It doesn't have to be a "sit down break" to help your stomach.

I remember that feeling all the time of INSTANT hunger... dh and I would be driving in town, he'd say "wanna go eat", I'd say "nah, not hungry", and w/in 5 minutes I thought I would die if I didn't eat (poor dh, trying to get me somewhere fast enough!) LOL!

I finally learned to always have something with me.

congrats!!!!
