Well... my wife broke the news yesterday. She had been saying for about 2 weeks that she thought she might be pregnant, and the tests confirmed it yesterday: She's about 3 weeks pregnant with our second baby!

This is super great news, but it is about 2 months earlier than we were planning for. Especially with our Disneyland trip coming up in 2 weeks.

So, what should I expect with a 5 weeks pregnant wife? We've been to Walt Disney World once while she was pregnant with our first, but she was in her second trimester, so everything was peachy.

Are all height restricted rides off limits at this point? Or is discretion based? I can't imagine Soarin' is bad at all. I can't remember anything super rough about RSR, but I never thought about it through the lens of someone pregnant.

Is there a doctor in the house?! :D

I found out that I was pregnant with our youngest on our Disneyland trip! Other than Soarin', I immediately stopped riding height restriction stuff. More than likely, at 5 weeks, she would be fine, but I personally decided it was not worth the risk. I had miscarried before and if it happened again, I didn't want the guilt and worry that I had caused it by riding something. Ask the doctor what they think, though. And congrats! That is so exciting for you!

It shouldn't be too different unless she is having bad morning sickness. Is stay away from rides with a lot of bumping or high speed, but that's about it. I went to DL while pregnant with my twins frequently until about 22 weeks in. Make sure she rests and gets plenty of water. Take in some of the shows and scenery that your don't notice when you focus on the big rides. And bring some ginger candies and other anti-nausea remedies. Congrats!

Congrats! That is very exciting news! Yes, ask your OB, because it's their advice that matters. I just wanted to say Disneyland can still be wonderful without thrill rides, and the rides will still be there after the baby is born, so I would just follow the restrictions and be happy about the reason!

As to what to expect? Fatigue and maybe some nausea, I would think. Bring crackers! And plan for some rests, too.

I went at about 6 weeks pregnant. I rode Soarin' and RSR that trip, but none of the other HR rides. I wasn't feeling great, so I had to sit every now and again. Just take it at her pace. :)

My pregnancy I never had any nausea... I was just always tired so make sure you do naps, rests, lots of water, and snacks. How exciting!!!!! Congrats! Just think, pretty soon you'll share the magic with TWO kiddos instead of just one. If your lady feels sick, maybe bring some ginger candies or have her wear SeaBands that you can get at any major drug store.

Lots of water! Dehydration is the main thing to worry about.
A friend of mine went when she was 8 weeks pregnant and her doctor had her stay off roller coasters, and anything "very jarring". She still had a good trip, and took the time to smell the roses for once. She rode Soarin' with no issues.
Congratulations, and I hope you have a wonderful trip!

Different people have different ideas about what is safe to ride that early in pregnancy; she could ask her doctor what he/she thinks is safe. I've read the greatest issue is placenta abruption in later pregnancy due to the heaviness of a the baby, but at 5 weeks the baby is very small.

Soarin' does not have a pregnancy warning, RSR does but I may ride it anyway (about 20 weeks when I go); it's slower than driving on a freeway and less bumpy than the speed bumps at the shopping centers. One ride you may not think of that has a warning is Autopia. I guess with all of the fumes and then kids running into the back of you it's not a good place for a pregnant person. Personally I think that the 2 water rides are probably okay at that stage of pregnancy, but definitely wouldn't ride Indy as it's so jerky.

Just for the record, pregnancy is counted from the first day of the mom's last menstrual period. So if she's been saying she might be pregnant for 2 weeks, then she was either wrong for the first week or she's more than 3 weeks pregnant. ("Two weeks" pregnant is at ovulation/conception. Although conception dating and pregnancy dating methods have advanced, how far along a mom is considered is still based the traditional "last menstrual period" dating.). Just wanted to make that note so you know what you're asking about. For the baby's safety that's not important but for mom morning sickness usually starts around 6 weeks. So if she's 7 weeks at the time of your trip that's more likely to be an issue than 5 weeks.

In the first trimester, it's unlikely that even Indy would be that bad. There's a lot more fluid than baby in there and miscarriages that early usually means there was something wrong with the baby that it couldn't grow to term. However, as someone else noted, it would suck to have a miscarriage and spend time wondering or feeling guilty about a few minutes of fun at Disneyland even if the ride likely had nothing to do with it. So she definitely has to weigh her choices carefully and should also consult her doctor.
I had a friend ride Indy twice during her 1st trimester even though she had severe morning sickness and skipped a lot of rides but Indy was her favorite. She and the baby were fine. At the time I thought it was no big deal. It probably wasn't, but once I got pregnant myself I thought I would never have taken that risk (however small) with my babies. However, we found a lot to do on that trip. Probably the only issue was for our other friend on that trip who wanted to do the more "thrill" rides in DCA because I don't like them so the pregnant friend was supposed to go on them with her. So she ended up doing a lot alone. And our pregnant friend ended up sitting out a lot in the evening (she was more nauseated in the evenings than in the morning). Even sitting and people watching in Disneyland can be a lot of fun though so it worked out fine.

I wouldn't ride anything that was hr. However my babies were ivf babies. After 5 years of trying and thousands of dollars, there is no way I would have ever done anything I felt would jeopardize my pregnancy. Each person is different and has to make that decision. However, Disneyland will still be there and so will the rides. I haven't ridden big thunder in years because I was either recuperating from surgery, pregnant, or it was down. I have not suffered for lack of riding it!

I went when I was about that gestation with my third child. I rode everything. Well, not California Screaming or ToT, those I didn't feel comfortable with, but Splash Mountain, BTMRR etc were fine. My doctor actually said I could ride anything at that point because the baby was so tiny and so cushioned that there was virtually no risk. However you have be comfortable with it on the off chance something does happen like a miscarriage, some women might be upset thinking there was something they could have done to precent it. As long as she's not too nauseous, she should have a great time!

We just returned from Disneyland Resort and I'm 5 months pregnant. It was easy peasy, I just had to avoid the obvious rides with warnings. I ate more than usual and drank more water than usual, but we had a wonderful vacation with our two toddler boys! Make sure she has a quick chat with her doctor beforehand, but otherwise she should be fine :)

I went when I was 30 weeks pregnant. My rule was: if my 15 mos old (her age at the time) couldn't ride then I wouldnt. I still had a great time. To me no attraction is worth any potential risk. But I typically visit 1-2 times per year so I knew I'd be back soon.

This exactly. I made the same decision for the same reason, but your OB is going to give you best and most personal advice.
