Pregnancy/blood test question...

CK8269--I don't believe so. An amnio is about 99.99999% accurate. The "triple test" discussed in this thread is not overly accurate.

I just wanted to BOLD and COLOR this response so someone might read it. The original post was from LAST YEAR. CK8269, a newbie resurrected it for some reason.

The OP was about the "triple test". CK8269 asked about an Amniocentesis. They are completely different tests.

This is how my OB puts it to me: It's a test (now a quad screen instead of a triple screen) that has a very high rate of false positives, but they give it to see if there is a need to more intensive/intrusive testing. Otherwise, they'd skip straight to the more in-depth tests. What they are trying to do is save you from the hassle of doing risker tests if there is no need. If there is a problem, they want to know. Not to encourage you to abort or anything, but so that the hospital and doctors can be prepared and your child will get everything he/she needs during birth & from the second he/she is born. It will also give you time to prepare mentally & emotionally, educate yourself, find a pedi who specializes, and have all you need for a special needs child.

Thank you Robin.

Thanks Robin! I was suprised as well that my "old thread" had resurfaced!

I hope the information posted both last year and this year can help ease someone's nerves as much as it did for my friend.

She has a beautiful, healthy almost one year old girl. princess:

Thanks for all of the responses and well wishes!

Has anyone encounter any case of positive result for amnio test, but the baby turns up healthy and normal?

I had a CVS done, which can be done earlier than an amnio, however, mine showed severe chromosomol abnormalities . I had an amnio done, and things looked a lot better. :thumbsup2 DS is a smart, relatively healthy, delightful (mostly) 13 year old who does have some minor abnormalities which most people don't even notice.
