Has anyone cruised while being in 1st trimester or early 2nd trimester pregnancy? I know that DCL does not allow after 24 weeks but I was wondering if there is anything to consider prior to that. Thanks!

I have never been pregmant, but would imagine it could vary greatlywith each individual, just as some suffer morning sickness for months and others never seem to get it. I'm sure there are people who cruised early in their 2nd trimester who never felt sick, and others in the 1st trimester who had problems. There was a pregnant lady on my January cruise who felt quite ill, even though the seas were calm. Have you/your wife cruised before?

This is a tough one. I would not plan to cruise prior to my 20th week of pregnancy because I find that I get extremely sensitive to motion during the first 1/2. I also suffer horrible morning, noon and night sickness for the first 13 weeks. Even if you (and if it is you - Congratulations!) aren't sick, another thing to consider is fatigue. Especially in the first trimester you get very, very tired. Even my friends that are in prime shape have complained about how surprisingly tired they get. And it gets worse if you're chasing after a toddler at the time! But weeks 20-24 I'd be game!

If you are worried about motion sickness, use the seabands, wear them on your wrists as you probably can't take any medication for that being pregnant. I have a friend that had to wear the seabands during her whole 9 months of pregnancy and only felt fine when she wore them. It was the only way she didn't get morning sickness. They really work without medication.

My wife and I cruised on Celebrity's Galaxy last year when she was almost 24 weeks pregnant. Even when the seas were choppy in Barbados, she felt fine. She says it was the best vacation she ever had. I will tell you she never had any morning or other sickness during the pregnancy, so that might be a factor for some people. But she enjoyed the food, beaches and even an excursion. Best part was trying to find dresses for the formal nights, but she managed. Best vacation I've had to date also, but soon we'll take our daughter on her first cruise--DCL!

My family went in 2000 when I was 20 weeks pregnant and had a wonderful time. I had morning sickness my whole pregnancy, but it didn't get any worse on the trip. I didn't have as much energy on the excursions as the others we went with, but still had a lot of fun. As a matter of fact, we had so much fun, my family went again in 2001 with my new 8 month old and had an equally 'WONDER'ful time !!!

I have not cruised when pregnant...but we went to Hawaii when I was 20 weeks. I was sick my entire pregnancy. I used every trick in the book to try and combat the sickness. I had no problem going to Hawaii, but I did get a cold while I was there and of course couldn't take anything for it, so I was forced to stay inside in bed for one day. (Turns out it was the one day of the year it rained in Kihei, so I didn't miss out on too much!)

Also, before going to Hawaii, I told my OBGYN that I would be going to Hawaii and snorkeling and going on excursions. He said that I was allowed to take Dramamine. Check with your OBGYN for safety reasons. But aside from it making me tired, I believe it really helped on our snorkeling boat trip. especially since I get sea sick pertty easily. (on top of morning sickness.)

All of this said, I would not have been able to go before my 20th week because I was soooo very sick. But everyone is different.

Lastly, we are planning our next child around our next Disney cruise. We are hoping to time it so that we are pregnant and cruising between the 18th and 24th week. We get pregnant pretty quickly, but we are aware that we run the risk of cruising before the 18th week. So, wish me luck!

And good luck to you with your decision!

P.S. Our last cruise, I saw the KEWLEST maternity bathing suit on a lady who was 20 weeks along. She got it at old navy and it was so kewl!!!!!

Well....I am currently 16 weeks and am going on the 3/9 Magic....
In my previous 2 cruises with Disney I have seen MANY pregnant
women.....so I am not too worried about it. I have been feeling
alot better so other than the motion sickness I am going to enjoy
myself....I am going to use the seabands and if my doc lets me
I will take dramamine at night...
