Ok, I'm going to be going to disney and I'll be about 16 weeks pregnat. I already know that I can't ride roller coasters or any other "jerky" rides but there were a few I was wondring about.

1) Soarin' - I'm really not sure about this one, it isn't too intense so I think I may be able to do it, any opinions??

2) POTC - I'm pretty sure I could do this one too but I'm alittle nervous about the drop. Did anyone here ever ride it while pregnant?

3) Test Track - At first I thought no for this but then I started to think about it more. For the most part it's like riding in a regualr car. Any opinions on this one???

4) Kali River Rapids - I really don't think this would be good but I saw a women riding it while pregnant so I thought I might ask.

Thanks in advance everyone!!!!!

when i was 7mo pregnant i rode all of those but test track. and that was only because i had never ridden it before. now that i have been on it, im still not sure i would. i dont think it would ahve any adverse effects, but i dont i guees better safe than sorry.

I definitly would not due test track!!!! I think the woman on kali river was stupid to go on that while pregnant! POTC seems pretty tame even with that drop and soarin' is a maybe.
Definitly ask your OB and explain to him what kind of rides they are. usually they say no to rides that have centrifical force(teacup ride).
unfortunatly, he/she may say no to everything but you could always do the oh-so-fun It's a Small World or the carousel:rotfl:
I have never done Disney pregnant, well that's not totally true..my 14 month old was conceived during our last trip...maybe thats the reason behind his mickey fascination!:lmao:

Thanks for the advice!!!

I am going to my doctor this week so I will be asking some questions. I'm hoping that I may be able to do a few more things since I really don't have a belly yet.:confused3

I rode everything, including the Mts., ToT, RnR, and everything in between when I was around 12 weeks preggo. Granted I didn't know that I was preggo but I imagine that I would have still ridden those ride during the first trimester had I know. I did talk with my OB after we got home and I realized I was preggo (about a week after we got back) and she told me that the baby was so small and in so much cushion that the chances of something happening to the baby from a ride at that stage in a healthy pregnancy were pretty slim.

At later stages of pregnancy I wouldn't ride ToT or Kali but POTC has about a 12-14 foot drop at a very slight angle and Soarin doesn't jostle you around at all.

Of course if you have any questions talk with your OB, be informed and make the decision based on your information and what you feel is right for you.

I went when I was about that far along and I would say you're OK doing POTC and Soarin'. I remember doing Splash Mountain and Kilimanjaro Safari. My OB told me that it depended on your size- if you're uterus was up in the abdomen (and less protected) or still low and more protected. Anyway- he'll be able to give you some ideas.

BTW- Make sure you have REALLY comfy shoes. The one thing that stands out in my mind is how much my feet HURT!!!

...I can't help myself when I see these threads...

So my doctor gave me the best advice I 've ever heard. He said, "you probably won't cause a miscarriage by vacuuming, but if you ever have a miscarriage, you'll torture yourself thinking you did, so don't vacuum."

Substitute "riding rides with warnings" for "vacuuming" and you'll get my point. I only can speak for myself, but if I rode the ride, I'd come off it and have an anxiety attack worrying about the baby, and then every (probably dehydrated) cramp I'd worry whether something went wrong...

Go to to the official wdw website and search for "expectant" and you'll get a full list of rides with warnings and save them for next time. Daddy can sit with the baby while you ride everything!

Enjoy your trip!

you didnt vacuum while pregnant:confused3

You can use that same extreme thinking about driving in a car. :confused3 There are a lot of things, a lot of daily living things that you can find that some book/website/person/"experts" will tell you to avoid while pregnant. Some are things that most people would agree that you should avoid, some things people have to do their own research, talk to their own doctors, and make your own decision.

I personally think it is foolish to drink alcohol while pregnant yet my sister told me that her OB said that wine in moderation was fine. Each his own. You should talk with your doctor and then make the best informed decision that works for you.

My only comment is about Soarin'. I think you are ok medically to ride it, like a gentle swing going up and down. I rode while 6 mo pregnant. The only hesitantion I have is I did feel a lot more nauseous riding it while pregnant than not and I am not prone to motion sickness. So, if you are having a bad day with morning sickness you may want to skip it.

Have a nice trip and be prepared to drink more and rest/nap more than a usual trip!

I will be 7 months PG while there and I am taking no chances. I am just going to stick with Dumbo, etc. Next yr when we go back I will go ride crazy:)

I'm no help - I rode almost all of the coasters 12 weeks pregnant with my twins. However, I'm convinced my body doesn't go into labor. My OB just laughed when I told her. ;)

Soarin and POTC would be fine...Test Track and Kali not so much. It is a personal decision of course - for me, I take the cautious route. I figure we have years of Disney ahead of us, and so what if I miss a few favorite rides if it is the best thing for the baby?
The one ride I will do when PG that says not to is Kilimanjaro Safari. It is my absolute favorite, and really no worse than a bumpy road in a car.
Drink lots of water and take frequent breaks...I remember fainting waiting in the Hall of Presidents b/c I hadn't been drinking enough (I was 15 wks PG)!

Yes, daily living like riding in a car or vacuuming is hard to avoid. You take those risks everyday.

Going to Disney and riding rides are avoidable & in my opinion, not worth the risks. I've been to Disney pregnant 2x, once 5mths, once 6mths. I knew many rides I couldn't go on & was surprised to find the Safari in AK one of them...I asked the CM why the warning was there and she told me this: If there is a warning on a ride, it's there because most likely, something happened to a pregnant woman while on the ride. She said it was up to me, they wouldn't stop me from riding anything. BUT, the knowledge that the warning was there for a reason was enough for me to sit it out.

Neither trip was my first nor my last to Disney, so I'd already ridden all the rides in my life & didn't feel as though I was missing out on anything. I knew I'd be back as well.

I agree w/ the vacuuming post...in theory. If I had chosen to ride one of those rides & had a miscarriage, whether it was related to the ride or not, I'd always think it was & never be able to forgive myself.

There are more rides pregnant women can safely ride than not, so why take the chance? Pirates is fine, btw. No warning on that one for the pregnant.

It is everyone's own personal decision to make, I just don't think any ride, any 1-2 minutes of fun, is worth the risk of losing my baby.

I appreciate this info! A friend of mine went a few years ago while pregnant (I think 7ish months?) and just went to Guest Services at the beginning of each day to see what she couldn't ride, so I'm hoping to do the same if we go. For me, I don't think the restrictions will be a big deal - they're probably all similar to things my daughter can't yet do anyway, so oh well! :)

im curios, what exactly at guest services did they tell her? did they just hand her the rides list? on it it says where there are warnings. just curious.

Thanks everyone so much for the advice!!!!! I really appreciate it!!!!

Tomorrow I go to the doctors so I"ll be able to find out what my limitations are.

Thanks again!!!

We had been going to WDW 2-3 times a year prior to me getting pg with my first and we went a few times during that pregnancy and I went during various stages of pregnancy with my second as well. The warnings are more than likely up as a CYA thing. Same thing with putting a "Do not use in the shower" warning on a hair dryer. I did have more than a few freak out minutes after finding out I was pregnant when I thought of the rides I had ridden without knowing I was pregnant. My OB assured me that with a low risk and healthy pregnancy and being in with being in good shape that riding the rides that I rode would have not caused a miscarriage. Seven months later I gave birth to a very healthy baby boy that has had me on a rollercoaster ever since. :) Once I hit the middle of the second trimester I stayed off of the extreme rides but still rode KS since the road I traveled to work was under construction and not in much better shape.

Each person should consult with their doctor and make the decision that is right for them and their family.

We just went in the beginning of Sept and I was 27 weeks. I rode Soarin several times, and would not hesitate to go again. It is very smooth and can't imagine why it would be a problem at any stage of pregnancy unless you have motion sickness.
I skipped any roller coasters, ToT, Splash Mountain and Kali. I did ride KS once, and asked to be seated directly behind the driver as it is supposed to be less bumpy. Dh was worried about the ride, but even he agreed that it wasn't anything to be concerned about.
I wouldn't do Test Track. Too much jostling.

In the end, WDW will always be there. I would much rather be safe than sorry, and just enjoy the rides next time without worry.

Definitely take it slow, and drink lots of water. I took lots of time to rest while dh rode a couple of rides that I choose not to go on. Plus we spent more time resting since we were there without the kids.

Have fun, and congrats.
