I notice that BWV has 2 different sets of points, one for Preferred, one for Standard. No other DVC resorts has such distinction. If I check Disney's web site for cash reservations, there is only one set of rates for BWV.

So what I am getting at BWV for paying more points?

The standard view rooms are all occupied by DVC owners. Those paying cash are given a "Preferred Garden / Pool View" room.

The "more points" are really the same amount of points as those accomodations at the BCV or the VWL. It's the standard view that is the "bargain." The ability to go, and stay at Epcot for less points is what sold us on BWV.

DVC members get first dibs on rooms. Since BWV is our home resort, we can reserve either standard view or preferred view rooms at 11-months out. Since only about 20% of BWV is standard view, they tend to go quickly to DVC members (such as us!!) who think the standard view rooms are a good value (less points per night means your points go farther, plus the standard view still gives you a view of the Illuminations fireworks). In theory a cash customer could get a standard view room if there is a last minute cancellation by a DVC member, but its not likely due to the waitlist.

Disney figured out that they didn't need to give a 'discount' on DVC standard view rooms, so that's why all the rooms at the DVC resorts which came after the Boardwalk (Beach Club, Wilderness Lodge and Saratoga Springs) all charge preferred view points for all rooms. This is just one of many reasons why the Boardwalk is our favorite DVC resort and the only one where we'd consider adding on points.

If you go through the online reservation system, you get the following description of a BWV studio:

"Studios offer views of a parking area. The Studios have one queen-size bed and a double sleeper sofa, dining table with two chairs, and private balcony. Studio amenities include microwave, refrigerator, coffeemaker and wet bar."

I think by putting "parking area" it gives them the freedom to put you where ever they want. If you get pool view, then you think you got upgraded. If you can see a parking area (such as the ones at the end of the hall by the valet lot), you can't complain.

We have booked standard view for the end of June. It will be our first time with standard view. Can you really see the fireworks from this view? :rolleyes1

Some of the rooms have a fireworks view. The best ones are on the side across from the bus stop on the 3rd or 4th floor. Some are around the corner and have an MGM view. Others are down near Jellyrolls facing the Swan, no fireworks view there.

Your best bet would be to request "across from the bus stop, top floor".

We had 3 SV balconies, and 2 of the 3 had trees blocking the view of the fireworks. We were only on the 2nd floor. Still, everytime we were there for the fireworks, everyone would go out and look.

From many rooms you can. As DebbieD suggested, ask for top floor across from bus stop. Keep in mind that that area is the dreaded 'long walk from the elevators' but if you're like me, you won't mind walking an extra 60 seconds or so to get to your room. It's true that some trees block the view from some units. I know that the X121 rooms have a tree in front of the balcony. If you happen to get one of the corner rooms however (x123) then count your lucky stars because they are extra-large (owing to the irregular shape at the corner of the building). On second thought, I hope you don't get one of those rooms because that's what I requested for our 6/23 - 7/2 visit!!

You can see only the higher fireworks, and there really aren't a lot of those. Here's what we saw of Illuminations from our 2BR Standard View this past summer.
