Preferred vs. Premium?

Hey all-- seems like there are loads of differences between the sites-- tent/partial, full, preferred & premium... Can you guys enlighten me? Usually I would imagine premium is best but perhaps that isn't the case!

We like the premium because of the concrete pad, but also the length. However, that being said, not all premiums are the same size. Last October, we were assingned site 836, and extremely not happy. It is only 12 x 40. We arrived late in the day, and choose not to relocate, or ask for a different site. Had driven about 22 hours, and were tired. It did not hamper our disney experience, loved the loop location, etc, just wished for a different site. Good news, only 61 days for our next visit.

We have a 40' motorhome with 4 slides, so we always get a premium site. Premium sites are wide and the concrete slabs are longer than others. Actually, there are four categories of campsites at FW, premium, preferred, full-hookup, and partial. The following is from AllEars.net site:

The Premium Site is billed as "big-rig" friendly. They accommodate RVs larger than 45 feet in length and those that have multiple slide outs. The sites are wider (up to 24 ft), and deeper (up to 60 ft) meaning they have a larger, level-paved pad. They also feature all of the amenities - water, power, sewer, cable, and access to the high-speed Internet, plus upgraded picnic tables and grills as well as prime locations.

Tent campers can use premium sites, but since they have a full pad with no sand area at all, unlike the preferred, full, and partial, it can be impossible to find a place to put in tent stakes. The actual size and shape of each site "will depend on Mother Nature", as Disney likes to say.

To Disney, preferred sites means those that are located near the Settlement Trading Post, Pioneer Hall, Meadows and marina areas (meaning the preferred/in demand areas). Preferred Campsites include: water, power, sewer, cable. Internet Access is free. There will be a $125 deposit hold on credit card. Once kit is returned the hold will be released). Campsite sizes vary in length and width and some can accommodate equipment up to 10' X 60'.

Sites in loops 1600, 1700, 1800, and 1900 have been equipped with cable and Internet, but due to their location, will remain Full Hookup.

Loops 1500 and 2000 remain as partial hook-up sites for campers using tents, pop-up campers and van campers. As now, RV will not be allowed on these sites. All sites include cable TV and offer high-speed Internet access. Picnic tables and grills will remain as they are now. As of now, there are no pet loops in this category.

Hope this helps. We'll be there October for a week in and December for 8 days. Can't wait! :yay:

I'm pretty sure there are no preferred sites near Meadows. The only preferred sites are the 100, 200, and 300 loops up near Pioneer Hall and The Settlement. I've heard they would have converted them to premium, but they were too small.

I made myself a little color coded map in case it helps anyone else. I'm fairly sure it is current based on info I found here on the DIS and elsewhere on the web. If anyone sees something that needs to be corrected, please let me know. I also noted pet-friendly loops, but I'm fairly certain that I've read that they'll overflow pets into regular loops if the need arises.

Oh, I didn't put the cabin loop color in the key, but they're the beige/brown loops.

Thank you! :cool1: This should go into a sticky thread! It does indeed help to see the loop info combined with a map to get true a idea of location vs loop type. I've already saved your image for reference :thumbsup2

This is all super helpful info guys. Thank you so much!!! Can you use a popup in a preferred loop?

Great FW map. Thanks for posting that KristinU. :cool1:

Ok so you CAN take a car up to the 1500 loop? I was curious about that! Thanks!
