I see there is a thread for those who have the seating and those who want it...

how does one "get" the preferred seating in the first place...so you get it for staying onsight? is it for a certain show???? do you get to choose what date etc...

help me clear this in my head !!!

When you get a package through certain places, they include a voucher for "preferred" seating for certain shows. Aladdin is one of them.

I personally could have done without it. We used it in an early December when the parks weren't crowded. We actually had to check in and get in line before most people were in line for standby, our line was in the full sun (while standby people were in the shadow of the building), and we were last in the building. The normal seats were much better, as you could see the fun effects. We were in the "orchestra" seating area, so we (well, DH, as DS had to pee so he and I were in the bathrooms for it) got to see the underside of the flying carpet, and there's another big element of the show that's underwhelming when seeing it from leg level as well. We'd sit in the normal seats in the future, frankly!

Is the voucher only available when a package is purchased, or is one available at check in of one of the Disney hotels (GCH, specifically)? Our family of 4 received the vouchers in our package that was mailed to us. My parents are travelling with us and also staying at the GCH, but with a room only reservation. Will they be eligible for the vouchers too, or will we need to sit apart?

My understanding is it's with the packages only. I never received the vouchers when I booked the hotel only. But if you all want to sit together you'll probably do just fine without the vouchers for your entire group.
