Sorry for the stupid question but when my travel agent called she said we are getting a preferred room at POP, like its a great thing or something. I was wondering what exactly is a preferred room?:confused3

A preffered room is one that is closer to the main pool, food court, bus stop etc..
The cost assocaited with a preferred room are about $10 per night. Anyone know what the exact cost is?

The exact cost of the rooms depend on the time of year you are going.
According to AllEarsNet:
Standard Room Preferred Room
Value: $82 $94
Regular: $99 $111
Summer: $109 $121
Peak: $119 $131
Holiday: $129 $141

They also list weekend rates? But every time I priced out my vacation there was never any weekend rates.

It is $12 a night extra for the preferred. I like being guaranteed a room close to everything. I don't feel a need to request anything when I book one. Any preferred room is fine in my book.

Look on page 1 of the Grooviest New Pop Century thread, http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1629396 for a map that shows which rooms are preferred at POP.

Call me a cynic, but... it's a good thing for the Travel Agent, sure - it means an extra $1.20 per night commission.

No room at Pop Century is more than 750 feet from the center of Classic Hall.

yeah, but after a full day in the blazing sun at the parks, I would rather walk 50 feet instead of 750 feet to my room :goodvibes

I booked a preferred room at ASMo in May '08 (with 2 nights @ $111.00 each and the 3rd @ $121.00). I've been reading that some guests did the same and ended up getting standard rooms when they checked in. For those who had that happen, did they give you the standard rate or still charge you for preferred?

And to some people, it's worth it :)

As I said, call me a cynic. It'd be one thing if the OP asked here first, and some of us touted - from experience, or general knowledge - the advantages of Preferred locations, while others of us held out for Standard (at $82 vs $94 a night, one could stay eight nights Standard for less than seven nights Preferred).

Especially if the TA didn't explain why Preferred is "great", I'd be leery of basing my decision on JUST the TA's opinion.

How do you know this? You are so smart! LOL! On the map and being there some of the rooms seem so far away, but 750 feet isn't that far at all. Granted, I still don't want to stay in the 80's or 90's.

That 750 feet is easy for a novice to get lost in, though. Last year, I walked around for 30 min trying to find the 90s buildings before I realized there were maps everywhere! :rotfl2: I don't know where I was, but I couldn't find the Rubix cube anywhere!

That being said, since we had a car, I liked where we were. We were very close to the parking lot and we had our own car. Made things easier for us.

Seriously? I used a Google map, focused in on Pop Century, then used that "key" thing - you now, the 'one inch equals twenty feet', or whatever it was... and I measured.

In fairness, I only measured from the far corner of the Fifties and the far corner of the Nineties - since Pop is wide and shallow.

I would also like to know this. We have preferred booked for ASMu and when I asked CM on the phone when booking she assured me this is what I would get. So I guess we will see.

I don't know - but I would be bringing proof of the Preferred locations (a list, for the Value resorts, or willCAD's map for Pop Century) and if I were erroneously placed in a Standard room when I'd paid for Preferred, I would politely but firmly insist on a credit on my room account - assuming I'd already reminded the CM that I had reserved Preferred, and there weren't any available.
