Preferred Room at CBR?

Hi guys,

My quest to stay at every Disney hotel with every relative continues, this time with a father's day trip to CBR! I stayed there when I was a wee babe, and can't remember it for the life of me (and I don't think my dad can either). I made my reservation this morning for a standard room, and can't decide if I should try to get us an upgrade to a preferred. The only mod I've stayed at recently was POFQ, which is small enough that we stayed in one of the farthest buildings and my sister with mobility problems was fine. He just had surgery on his foot but I think he'll be mostly healed by the time we go (otherwise he wouldn't be coming in the first place, he's said). It's about $70 more for three nights for a preferred room...is it worth it? I know if I ask him if he wants to upgrade, that's the first thing he'll ask me, so I thought I'd post the question here and see if anyone can offer any insight based on experience. We're both generally fit people, him more so than me, actually, if that makes any difference.

My mother has gone with us to Disney the last two years and we have stayed at the CBR. She is 78 years old and has arthritis in her foot but she was able to make the walk from Jamaica over to Old Port Royale with no problems. The walk from our room in Jamaica 42 to Old Port Royale was about 5 minutes. We did request a ground floor room so that she wouldn't have to climb the stairs everyday.

we stayed at CBR for our last trip.....we had a prefered room, but that did get us close to the bus stop(very large resort), but we were not so close to the main building. you may want to upgrade to a prefered room but also request a closer unit.....we didnt use the main pool or the food court very much-just to far for us after a long day in the parks....I do however have to say that we loved the resort, however the kids miss POP....I wanted to to stay at POF but sadly lost out and was out voted so we will be at POP this zmas......

This was my experience as well. I stayed here with my mom shortly after she had surgery (didn't need a scooter/wheelchair, but didn't want to have to needlessly add on to her walking distance), so we got a preferred room to be closer to the bus stop. I wish I had looked into the layout beforehand to request to be in a building close to the foodcourt, etc. I didn't feel like it was worth the extra money just to be closer to the bus.

There is, however, an internal bus that runs around CBR to the various stops. When we were visiting it was freakishly cold (seriously freezing), so the wait for the bus was a little miserable, but in normal temps it wouldn't be bad.

Just wanted to pop back in to add a little information. If you were to book a preferred location and want to put in a request for a specific building, then I'd suggest that you request Martinique 26. It's very close to Old Port Royale (maybe a minute or two walk) and you can use the Old Port Royale bus stop since it's actually closer to that particular building than the Martinique bus stop.

Hmm...it sounds like it's really a gamble. I could request a certain builiding but even with the extra money there's no guarantees. Still, more input wouldn't hurt!

Did you request what building that you wanted to be in ? We are booked for a preferred room for October and just wondered if you didnt get your room request or didnt ask for one ?

When we went last year, we booked a pirate room. DS loved it! I think all the pirate rooms are in Trinidad - far away from OPR. But we lucked out and our building was right next to a bus stop.

I will add that we were glad we didn't spend the extra $$ for preferred for our stay at CBR. I requested Jamaica 45, 2nd florr and that's where we were. We loved that location. It was a beautiful 5 minute walk across the bridge to OPR and the main pool. Plus a very short walk to the bus stop.
