Preferred Parking in Mickey and Friends Structure - anyone know when this started and/or has anyone tried it yet?

For those who don't know:
Regular parking price $18
Preferred parking price $35

CM told me preferred guarantees you a spot near the elevators/escalators, but I have no idea how close, or how far away they park people who don't pay the extra $$$. Anyone experience it yet?

Here is a picture I found.

I don't think it's worth it. When I went on Sunday, there were exactly 5 cars parked in preferred parking on my level.

Sorry, I scanned the page to see if this had been discussed, but I guess I didn't go back far enough.

I parked in Mickey and friends yesterday and when I left at about 1 pm there were 2 dozen cars in the preferred section on my level, so it seems they are getting takers.

For $36, you can park in Downtown Disney all day, don't have to deal with the structure and trams, and early in the day, you should get a great parking space.

I wouldn't encourage theme park goers to use the parking lot for Downtown Disney. That parking gets crowded as it is, and Disney pretty much asks that if you are going to the theme parks to use the appropriate parking areas.

However, you bring up a good point. What is to stop people from doing that and what will Disney do to discourage it.

I am not recommending it, I was just pointing out the price point is basically the same as Preferred Parking. (The maximum Valet Charge at the Hotels is $100, so that is the easiest option in regards to parking, but a lot more expensive.)

Now, once the north Parking Lot closes down for the 4th Hotel, well, parking at Simba isn't that great (will become the primary DtD lot). So that will defer the which is better issue.
