Prednisone side effects

I was started on Prednisone 20mg, twice a day for five days starting last Monday. The Dr. warned me I'd be moody and it may affect my sleep....well boy did I find out how much it would affect me. I was snapping at the kids and dogs all week, over every little thing, just the dogs walking past me would send me over the edge and I'd yell at the poor things to go lay down. I was up for hours at a time in the wee morning hours.

I have an ear infection in both ears, sinusitis, bronchitis and asthma. Also on Augmentin 875mg, nasal spray and albuterol inhaler. I finished the Prednisone Sat, only had one left as I had to split up a dose on Wed and only take one that day. Well Sunday I was so sick, even though I had been feeling better. From what I've read on-line it sounds like withdrawal symptoms...even though I was only on for 5 days. I have been dizzy, have nausea, headache, body aches/skin sensitivity, low grade fever, sore throat, no appetite, just feeling plain icky, and I am so done feeling this way, it's been 5 wks now that I've been sick and I just want to be better. Even though the Prednisone helped big time with my asthma I don't know if I could ever take it again.

I was on a mega dose for a long time--I had BIG mood swings-woke up talking my head off. I also got the "moon face"-just a big fat face.

Hope it does the trick and you are all better soon. It makes me very irritable and hungry. The first time I ever had a major craving was when I was on Prednisone. I could have killed for what I wanted to eat right then. It also gives me the shakes that usually last for a few days. Sometimes I've been unable to write because I was shaking so bad.

I feel for those of you who still have to take it daily. Luckily I came off of it after being on it for a few years. Ugh!

Yes, the headaches! Wow! Had I been in my right frame of mind last week or even yesterday I would have posted the prednisone side effects post! I just thank God it's only withdrawal, I told my dh yesterday I thought I might have meningitis or something! I finally looked it up on-line and realized i was having like at least 8 or so symptoms of withdrawal! Geez, They never told me about the withdrawal, which for me has been worse than taking it all of last week. Although one morning last week I woke up at 1:30 and didn't go back to sleep until 6:30, I packed my kids lunches at 4:30am since I was up, took the dogs out who looked at me like WHY are we up? Ha ha ha How long does the withdrawal last?
