Predicting vault releases?

I'm wondering if Disney re-releases their movies in order and what is the frequency of the releases. Does any one know for example what movies will be re-released this year and the approximate months to start looking for those titles.

I'm sure someone else can provide a better answer, but Amazon tends to post listing for new movies well in advance. If there is a planned released date I can guarantee you they have a listing :-)

If there isn't a release yet planned you can also sign up and they will notify you when it is announced. I'm patiently waiting on Finding Nemo on Blu myself..

The Lion King will be available Fall 2011. I'm not sure about any other releases. I myself am wondering when Lady and the Tramp will be available.

I found some site that listed the releases for the next several years (don't know how reliable it was). It said next year would be Lady and the Tramp, either Cinderella or The Little Mermaid(I can't remember which), and an anniversary release of Aladdin. The order made sense based on previous releases, but who knows?

Thanks everyone. I wasn't sure if anyone had detected any rhyme or reason to it. My thought was if they are going in order the next one should be Cinderella. Lion King is one of my favorites so I will be looking forward to that. <3

yeah, Lion King comes out in the fall, i'm so excited for that one on blue ray!
..I've heard it's going to be a while until another release of Cinderella, but I don't even remember where I read that, so I don't know.

I hope Aladdin comes out soon. For some reason I totally missed it when it was released on DVD the last time around. I only have the VHS version and, of course, no VHS player now that they're pretty much obsolete. :sad2:

Yay!!! My DS is anxious for Lion King to come out! :cool1: I too am waiting for Lady and the Tramp. :)

Here are my two predictions:

Aladdin (Dimond Edtion Fall 2012)

The Nightmare Before Christmas (20th Annversary edition in 2013)

I follow Disney Movie rewards on Facebook and today they had a question about a quote from Peter Pan. Maybe it's coming soon. That was my DS's favorite movie when he was little. My younger kids haven't even seen it yet I think.

I don't think there's any particular rhyme or reason behind the order of the Disney DVD releases. They're certainly not done in chronological order or anything like that. What I have noticed is this:

The most popular movies tend to stay in the vault much longer than the somewhat less popular ones.

In other words, snap up "Beauty and the Beast" and "Lion King" while you can. On the other hand, I think we're on the fifth "Dumbo" DVD for some reason. Whoever is currently in charge of the vault really likes "The Black Cauldron" it seems, since it's being re-released yet again. And I'm not even sure if "Home on the Range" ever went back in the vault! :rotfl2:

ONce we get the Lion King, Aladdin will be the only of my absolute favorites that we don't have... so I'm hoping for that soon.

I read late last year that Disney was planning to finally release "Song Of The South" sometime this year, but on a seperate posting on the DIS Board I am told that this will not happen. I guess we just have to wait and see what the powers that be decide to let us see! But I also read the "Lion King" was comming out in Blu Ray this fall.

I heard from a friend and Disney Store employee in CA that the order was announced as The Lion King this fall, Lady and the Tramp next spring, and then Cinderella the next fall.

I haven't really confirmed it myself, but his info is usually correct seeing as he's been working in the Disney Store there for years.

(Sorry about this; you just happened to be the person to bring this up.)

Official Disney DVD Collector Drinking Game: Take a shot whenever there is a new rumor that "Song of the South" will come out of the vault in America... :lmao:

I think the rapid advancement of technology is throwing Disney off their schedule of releases. They were happily re-releasing upgraded versions of dvds when blu-ray came along. Just when 3D might have been the next big thing, now we're talking releases in non-physical media such as streaming, cloud storage, etc. Must be keeping some Disney execs awake at night trying to determine the next big thing. The whole "going into the vault" thing is seriously outmoded.

I just received notification from the Disney Movie Club that The Fox and The Hound 1 & 2 are being re-released to club members only on June 7th, and then to the public. :)
