Just wondering....I really don't know.....

In the past, when staying a "regular" resort (you know what I mean) we have been able to fax our requests to the hotel something like 48 hours in advance just before the rooms are assigned to guests.

My question is this....since so many DVC guests seem to be given preassigned rooms, is it possible to fax your requests to these resorts before the rooms are assigned? I know we can put our requests into MS, but do you think they are read through before rooms are assigned?

And.....are rooms truly preassigned or is it truly based on room availability? I'm really confused as to how rooms are assigned these days!

No. DVC has always encouraged members to put requests on the reservation and NOT contact the resort directly. And, in the past month, ALL WDW resorts have now declined to recognize fax / phone requests even for cash guests. Those paying cash for their room at any WDW resort must also indicate any special requests at the time of booking.

I've given up trying to figure it out.

Back in December (high occupancy period) we stayed in a studio for one night at BCV. In that case, our room was pre-assigned. We called a couple of times, and eventually were given our room number around 2pm.

The very next day we checked into SSR around 10am. The CM that checked us in produced a map of the resort and politely showed us the location of three rooms that were immediately available which matched our reservation. We were in the room by 10:30am.

Same month. Same near-100% occupancy by DVC members. Different policies by resort.

If you ever figure it out, let me know. :)

The same policy was used at WLV at Christmas--3 or 4 available rooms, which one did I want as the CM pointed the rooms out on a map. I had to ask if they were all non-smoking(they weren"t), and non-handicapped(they were). Then I asked if the dumpster was still at the end of the building, which reduced my choices to 1. :goodvibes

Special Room Request Procedure
As a reminder, the established procedure and appropriate time for making special room requests is when you make your reservation with Member Services. If you have any additional requests, or changes to your original request, call Member Services directly. Please do not call or fax the resort where you'll be staying. To be fair to all Members, the only information we use when trying to honor special room requests is that which comes from Member Services.

With so many Members having special requests, it's important that everyone follow this established procedure. As you can imagine, the number of Members asking for particular rooms, views, floors and buildings makes it impossible to honor all of the requests. We do our best to honor your requests, but please understand that we cannot guarantee them.
