I'm sure that this may have been brought up many times before but I thought it would be a fun subject to discuss. What do you usually do the week leading up to your vacation? How about the trip to the World? Do you fly or drive? If you drive, do you have any specific stops on the way down and back?

We're from the Central PA area so we always take Route 15 at Gettysburg and ride that to Fredrick, MD where we follow Rte 29 through Leesburg, VA and onto Warrenton, VA and from there, get on I-95 at Fredricksburg. For anyone in the Central PA area that likes to drive to Disney (or points south), we always use this route to bypass the gridlock on the Baltimore/D.C. beltways, plus it's also the scenic route.

I also enjoy stopping at the truck stops, rest areas and the various restaurants along the exits of I-95. To me, that's all part of the excitement of the trip, especially as the excitement builds on the trip down. While I think pretty much all the rest areas along 95 are clean, I do highly recommend the one in Johnston County, NC, between exits 101 and 98 (heading south). That place is usually pretty clean and is midway through the state (which can be helpful if anyone finds the Carolina's to be long and boring, like myself). I also started documenting this kind of stuff on video (as well as when we stop to eat at restaurants both ways) and I find it nice to see where and when you ate on the actual road trip.

We usually stop anywhere ranging from Cracker Barrel to Shoney's. One time we tried to count how many "Waffle Houses" we could spot along the highway. Those seem to be very popular in the south, even though a few are now springing up around this area which is cool.

Something else I always look forward to doing before our trips to the World is buying my photo album in which I will be decorating with stickers and filling up with photos from our vacation once we return. I also began picking up a nice smaller notebook for the characters to sign their autographs. These can be picked up cheap at a Dollar Store (I got mine for our last trip at Dollar Tree). Besides picking up stickers at the World, I always seem to find lots of Disney-themed stickers at places like Wal-Mart, A.C. Moore and even wholesale places like B.J.'s. Between those and the sets they sell in the parks with the park logos and such, I find myself well stocked with them from when I return and begin to decorate my album.

So tell me, what do you like to do (or usually do) during the week leading up to the trip? Or during the actual trip itself? Let's hear some of your ideas on what you may like to do!

Since we are 3 families(grandparents, daughter's family and son's family) leaving in different locations but can leave together from one airport, 2 of the families always stay the night before at a hotel near the other family and meet for breakfast to get to the airport. I(as the Grammy) always try to leave some Disney present at the home and the airport for grandchildren. I am already pre-packing(as my husband calls it) for our trip leaving Boston on April 11. Actually I just got out our "Grumpy" pin which I bring everytime we do a Disney trip but so far have not had to use it. I guess Mickey keeps us all happy.

I just love the planning portion and now I am done and just waiting and counting days to leave.
