pre-trip planning - lax connections

I believe that you don't have to be flying Delta to use their lounge. :)

That is true of both the American and Delta Lounge memberships, however while that may be technically true, at many/most airports, the practical answer is that you need to go through specific security for a given airline, and that will limit your capacity to use a "competitor" lounge.

However very much worth looking at airport maps to see if it is possible (From memory Delta and Southwest are in the same "bit" of MCO - but check that!)

Yes, I agree. American airports are not like the size of Canberra and Melbourne where it is easy to access terminals.

Sometimes I hide in my office in Canberra, but pretty often I am found hiding in an Airport lounge (or on a plane)!!!

hrmm. off to do some research for the lounge benefits & whether we can access them or not for our legs of the trip. would be nice to have wifi/snacks and drinks etc and a nice comfy place to rest away from the general melee of the general boarding.

anyone know if lounge members get preboarding or anything similar?

Here's another vote of approval for the Hyatt at MCO. We stayed there before an early morning trip in 2008 and it was great!

Our DS enjoyed watching the planes take off from the balcony of our room and we had plenty of places to choose from in the terminal for dinner.

It was So convenient before an early morning flight.

No preboarding for being just a lounge member - you need some kind of Airline status for that - and you get that from flying a lot. The only intangible benefit of the lounges is that if things start going wrong with flights the AAngels in the club can often do some pretty amazing things - actually far more than Qantas staff can do in similar situations.

I understand that Virgin have stopped selling one day passes. However Delta sells a 30 day membership pass similar to the AA one, See Here. It will give you access to "Virgin Lounges", however, Virgin don't operate a lounge at any international airport in Australia (they use the Air NZ Lounges), and they don't appear to be included.Matt

Do you know if you can pre-book the 30 day pass? Or do you do it at the lounge on arrival?

What are your thought on Qantas allowing three people (2 adults and 1 teenager) into the lounge or are they really strict?

i'm with WAmum on this one too... if you buy a pass with Vaustralia (for eg, as we are flying with them) does it allow you to use the lounge here, as well as the lounge in the usa with it's partner airlines like virgin america/delta etc??

You need to buy the pass online, so i would do it the morning before you fly out (it will be active for the 30 days after you buy it). Qantas can be very accommodating, or very strict - it really does depend on who is guarding the door. Remember that you are in effect asking for a favour, and be prepared for if the answer is no (either that 2 of you are going to go into the lounge, or that you will leave).
