We have a couple pre-paid dining reservations but are going to the on the free dining plan on our visit. How will that be handled? Will the card get refunded when we use the dining plan? Do I just write this off as a loss and now I have another sit down meal available on the plan?

Which prepaid event? Not everything is covered by the DDP. If you have the DDP with table service entitlements (not QS) there should be an option when booking to choose using credits. You do have to put a CC down as a guarantee but it won't be charged unless you don't show ( for example: CRT)

Your example is the one I'm talking about. We have the free dining plan with one table service meal per day but had not yet reserved our room at the time because I was waiting for my Disney Visa to be delivered and we were right at the 180 day mark so I had to go ahead and use a different card. I got up at 4:45 AM on a Saturday to get that reservation. :) I made the room and ticket package reservation with free dining a few days later. I know it uses two meals on the plan but I wanted the girls to get to have breakfast with Cinderella on Christmas morning.

You will need to call the Dine line at 401-939-3463. If the agent that you speak to doesn't have access to refund the card, you will be connected to Guest Services. Please have both your dining reservation number and your resort confirmation number ready for the Cast Member when you make the call. We are open until 11:00 p.m. ET.

Thanks. I probably just would have showed up and tried to have them charge it to my plan and managed to get everything all screwed up.

You should be able to show up and get the prepayment refunded at the restaurant when you use your dining credits. Otherwise, if you call in, make sure you're very clear that you only want to change the payment method. Most CM's would rather cancel and rebook in order to accomplish your goal, but then you risk losing the reservation.

Um, yeah, no. That's why we call GS and have them do it if we don't have access to the program that lets us refund the payment. Trust me - we aLL know how precious a CRT reservation is to our Guests.

I've always been advised to change payment method (prepaid to dining plan w/CC guarantee) prior to trip. Some CMs have to get help/ override. Also, if no reservation is available when you call to change; there's a different dept. that will override payment method. Also, not so easy to just to credit your credit card @ restaurant for various reasons (ex. listed above/ not something wait staff has access to). DO THIS PRIOR TO TRIP!!!

made an ADR for CRT last spring for our October trip, got an FD PIN the next month. No way I was going to risk losing the CRT and waited until our trip to get the refund. No problem at all. I told the server that I had prepaid on my Disney Visa card and would like to use our dining credits to pay for the meals and get a refund on my credit card. She said no problem they do it all the time. The refund hit my credit cared before we left WDW.

Great news. However, not the same for my friend who traveled there in April. So when we went last month, I called before we left. Pre-paid but decided on dining plan in May. Reservation was @ CRT, less than 10 minutes on phone & had same reservation #.

FWIW, each has to make own final decision. This has been discussed on several threads. I've been on the boards since planning our February 2013 trip. So this was one of my initial questions. Most did not have your experience. Just my two cents. Glad you had a good results.

I wouldn't let the phone reps even have the chance to mess up and lose that reservation!!! Especially CRT at Christmas!! Heck no! I would leave it as prepaid and have the restaurant fix it when you have your meal, just tell them you prepaid but would now like to switch to DDP credits. They should have no problem doing this for you.

Losing it is my biggest worry about calling ahead. Believe it or not the whole trip is planned around that.
