I'm thinking of doing the pre-order Photopass this trip partly because we rarely get photos all together and partly because I know we're planning on getting a bit more dressed up in the parks for meals we've planned.
I'm just pricing it up and wondered what hidden charges there are on top of the $99 - is there tax on that? What about delivery? I also remember someone mentioning customs charges - has anyone had any experience of this?
Also, how many photos did you manage to have done and were the photographers easy to find in the parks?
Overall, was it something you would do again and something you thought was worth it?
I'd really like us to have some good pictures done this time as with it being my Dad's 60th, I want to have something to remember it by in years to come :)
thanks in advance :)

Sounds like you've got a good reason to go for the photopass pre-order, it'll be great to get you all in the shots with it being your Dad's 60th.

I cannot remember if we paid tax on the $99, I've just tried to look on our order, but I cannot find anything. There was an international shipping charge added, which was $34.90. We did order both the book and the CD, so I don't know if the shipping would be less with just the CD. With regards to customs charges, I don't recall having to pay them last time, but I'll have to wait on delivery (which will hopefully be this week) before I can confirm this.

We found plenty photographers in the parks, always available around the main areas and also mostly at the character meet and greets. They are sometimes in more unusual places, but I guess that's just pot luck if you find them throughout the day. On this times trip, we ended up with around 350 photographs and I've then amended these with borders and animation and now we've got around 600!

We've used photopass twice now and each time we've loved it. I completes our holiday and gives us plenty more photo's to look back on when we need a Disney pick-up! Whenever we're back there again, it'll most certainly be something we'll be using. Others will disagree, with there own reasons for it, but for me and my family, it's a must :thumbsup2

Last year the site said it was around $17 for shipping the CD(s) so it must have cost more with the photobook. I have seen folk mentioning that they just paid the standard US cost of $5 shipping so I don't know what the current situation is. A few DISers here have just ordered theirs so hopefully they can let you know.

I have pre ordered my CD. If you don't want it you just let them know and they will refund you. But it is quite hard to say no to your pics when you see them, knowing they will be deleted for ever if you don't buy them. ;)

Thank you both!
I didn't know you could cancel even after you had viewed your pics - good to know :)

You can, but remember not to order it if you don't want them. You register your card to view your pictures and then you can have a look. Keep in mind though that the quality of the pictures is great on the actual prints. The web images really don't do them any justice.

They have an opt out clause because some people are forced to cancel their trips, some just don't get enough photos taken and just order one or two actual prints or photo gifts, etc. The preorder is a great discount and it previously disappeared for quite some time so it is worth going for it if you think you might want it.

There is no tax on the $99 and the shipping charge for just the CD is $10.95. I have just ordered our CD and am waiting for delivery.

Never paid customs charges before and used it 4 times but never say never with Customs & Excise!

Great - thanks!

One more question - are you able to take the CD to max spielman/ asda etc to have them printed (we find it's cheaper than buying masses of printer ink)?

Thanks :)

I can't answer about taking the actual CD to asda - I uploaded the entire contents from the CD onto the computer and then put the photo's I wanted printing onto an SD card and took that down to asda. We didn't want all 800+ photo's printing, but I have to say what excellent service we had from asda and will be using them again for this years :thumbsup2

A way around it is to sign up with an online photo service like Tesco/Asda/Jessops and upload the images and order them online for instore collection.

I do believe you get a certificate of ownership/copyright with the CD, so yes, as long as you have that with you, you should be able to go into a store and print copies :thumbsup2

On another note, our photobook has arrived today and there's no customs charges :goodvibes

Are you pleased with the photobook? What is the paper quality like?

Love our book. We have two now, one from 2008 and this one from 2010.

Our pictures have come out really well in the book and we love them. Gives us great memories of the trip and I've popped our engagement ones in also, so it shows that off too :lovestruc

It is expensive, especially if you go over the 20 pages, but we love ours. I'll try and get some pictures up in the next few days if you'd like? The paper is good quality and the photos have come out really clear on it.

Photopass works when you're over in the Disney parks.

You'll see Disney's photographers dotted throughout the parks (usually dressed in a beige pair of shorts, white shirt and beige jacket - and with a camera, obviously!). When you see one, you simply go to them and ask for a photo taken in front of whatever landmark they are (or which character they're with) and once they've taken some shots, they'll hand you a photopass card (looks like a credit card).

This card can then be used each time you have photo's taken by different cast members and the photos will be stored on there. If you do loose or forget a card, then you can get another from a photographer no problem.

The photo's will then begin to add up on your card and then once home, using the unique reference on the back of the photocard pass, you can enter the details into the Disney Photopass website and you can view the photos that have been taken during your holiday.

Hang on, I am now confussed. I pre-ordered the CD for $99 and no postage and packaging charges were added? Money has been taken from my card and i have 1 credit in my account to use when i return in September. So will i get charged the p&p when i use the credit?

Also really confussed even more when i check my photo pass credit it says shipped? i haven't added no photos or anything as holiday not until September?

Yes Donna, you'll be charged shipping once you've placed your order.

With regards to the 'shipped' part, just ignore this, nothing is actually shipped until you place the order afterwards :thumbsup2
