I was also going to suggest getting everyone you know to register as a marrow donor. It's so incredibly easy - you swab your cheek with a giant Q-tip and mail it in.
It's one thing to hear about people with cancer but when it hits close to home it becomes personal. A dear friend of mine just had a double mastectomy thanks to breast cancer and now I am all about promoting awareness and supporting Susan G Komen's walk for the cure.
See what you can do to mobilize friends and family to register as potential marrow donors. I personally think that cancer is one of those diseases that needs to be advertised and shouted from the rooftops, not one that should be fought alone behind closed doors. Marrow donors can save the lives of folks with cancer and if everyone was on the registry, cancer would take a serious beating. So get the word out! This is a great start.
