Prayers needed again! Baby M ate cigarrettes

Baby M's mom, F, took her over to her baby daddy's house. I have no idea why, but while F was showering there, the baby got into F's purse and ate an unknown quantity of cigarrettes and is suffering from nicotine poisoning. Please pray that the baby is going to be ok.

Nicotine poisoning can cause heart problems, seizures, coma, and even death. OMG, I could puke right now.

Oh my goodness! How terrible! I hope that Baby M is OK . Cigarettes are so bitter tasting I can't imagine that a baby would really eat more than one. Does F smoke filtered cigarettes? The baby probably didn't eat the filter too and she could count those to see how many were chewed.

Gabby is in Austin, TX right now due to work. She will come home if the FL version of what we call DFACS here in GA decides that it's time to remove the baby from the her care. Gabby has that letter signed by F and if it's foster care or Gabby, F will definitely give the baby to Gabby and from there, we file for full custody and then adoption. This has gone way too far and we are both just sick about it.

All of the info that we are getting is second hand. Yes, baby daddy and F both smoke. F usually does it outside of the house, but the diaperbag smells like smoke according to Gabby. The judge basically slapped baby daddy on the wrist and told him to take anger management and parenting classes for his assault on F while she was holding the baby.

F should not be hanging out with him let alone showering at his place with the baby out and about and unattended. Bad choice upon bad choice = baby again in harms way. I am so freakin' sick of this. I wanna scream and yell and kidnap that little angel to protect her, but again, I am stuck sitting here waiting. It just stinks.

BTW: Feel free to insert curse words wherever you can think of inserting one in anything that I post to this thread because I am censoring myself big time.

Hugs and prayers to all of you.

You both are doing the right thing. I can't imagine sitting and waiting. But you have the paper work in place and it sounds like you're ready to enforce it. It truly doesn't make sense to me how judges can keep sending children back to places that are so unhealthy and dangerous for them.

Baby M is being transferred to Orlando to a pediatric hospital. Still don't know enough to feel comforted or even more worried about this transfer.

Gabby told me that the baby was alert and happy this morning, so that was a big relief. Around lunchtime, I called F to check on the baby because Gabby gave me her number. F told me that the baby was going to need to stay overnight again because her electrolyes are still off. Then she told me that she had left the baby alone at the hospital because she needed to come home to get baby clothes and diapers for her.

I kept it together though. But, really, who leaves a 9 month old baby alone in a hospital room? Especially one with an IV in her arm?

I am so hoping that someone documented that at the hospital.

As much as I don't particularly like F due to the other things you have said about her, I don't see anything wrong with her leaving the baby in the capable hands of the hospital staff while she goes home for clothes and diapers . I hope Baby M can come home tomorrow.

The thing that is wrong with that is that the pediatric floor of the hospital has clothes, food, formula, and diapers for the babies. That was no reason for her to drive 50 miles back home. The baby has government insurance, so there is no concern about the bill on her part.

Also, most hospitals do not have the staff to "baby sit" patients. I know that the local hospitals here will not let a parent leave the baby unattended. There was no friend, father, relative, or anyone familiar left to sit in that room with the baby. That was just wrong.

Glad to hear baby's doing okay. When our DD was an infant she had to have a few surgeries. DP never left the room. The hospital is about 5 miles from our house. One nurse finally made her go down to the cafeteria. But she never left the hospital. DP was amazed at the number of children that never had a parent or other relative there at least part of the time. She wanted to bring them all into the room with DD. I realize people work but for 3 days straight you would not see anyone.

I can't imagine driving 50 miles away when a baby is that sick. I'll keep praying here.

What a mess. I so hope this is resolved soon, and once and for all. You and your DP need to have this baby in your home so you can raise her and give her a chance at a decent life.

Oh, and I agree with you. Leaving a baby unattended at the hospital is completely uncalled for in these circumstances. Sounds like an excuse to get away.

The baby comes home from the hospital today!

Social services has now gotten involved. However, their focus seems to be on if F is any sort of threat to her grandmother who she stole the jewelry from last year. They called me, Gabby, and Gabby's "good" sister who is taking care of their mother while Gabby is not there. They went so far as to go to Gabby's mom's house today and they are going back again tomorrow too. I am not sure what all has been stirred up. The "good" sister says that it was F's mom who started this, but who knows. All reports made are supposed to be confidential, or at least the way they do it here in GA.

wow baby M needs someone that really wants her in their lives. She needs to be looked after. I am sorry to hear that she had nicotine poisoning and I hope that she recovers soon. I think that you and Gabby need to take the baby now before anything else happens. The next time may be too late
