She might not make it another few days...has some complications with her liver...we can only pray right now

your mom will be in my thoughts and prayers..
please keep us posted......

Having just lost my mother recently, I understand your anxiety and fears. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. :grouphug:

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers, things are possibly looking a little bit better for her, they're putting her on dialysis for her kidneys and hoping she's a candidate for a transplant of a liver. It's still inexplicicable on how this happened. 2 weeks ago she was as vibrant and happy as ever, now she's very sick....I just don't understand.

There are many things in life that can't be explained. We have to believe we can overcome whatever is thrown our way. It comes down to faith and hope....without that we couldn't survive. I am glad to hear things are looking up. Try to stay positive and know there are many of us sending prayers for you, your mother and your entire family!

They've put her on a respirator and sedated her, so at least she's not in any pain for the moment. They're hoping to stabilize her and then see if she can have a liver transplant done...they still don't know why it shut down to begin with.

I'm just hoping she can be stabilized for a few more days at least, to help me cope with it.

Ok, she's stabilized for now...nurse said they're not giving up and still deciding about the transplant. It irritates me that they keep asking about alcohol because they can't find another reason for the liver failure. She drank but never got drunk or excessively...just one drink a few times a week.

We have been called a few times with questions about her medical history and met the transplant team today. They're trying to get her vitals stable and then will hopefully find a way to do the transplant.

I'm just hoping for a few days to deal with this, it's all happening too quickly.

She's only 55, still has a long time to go :sad2:

My father was very ill several years ago. He is of Native American descent. There was a doctor that decided his health issues were caused by alcoholism. He rarely drank....the doctor assumed because of his heritage he was an alcoholic. He had a heart attack and this had an effect on his test results where his liver was concerned. There are several things that can cause problems with the liver besides alcohol. Hepatitis and heart failure are a couple. I wish I could help you find an answer. At this time, I guess the best you can do is focus all your attention on your mother's recovery. I will continue to keep your family in my prayers.

PS My Dad survived even though it was a long road...... Faith and Hope!!

YOu are right.. that is just way too young and hopefully they will get going on that transplant and help her get better...

Keep us in the loop and keeping her in my thoughts..

My aunt had chirrosis of the liver and never drank. They don't know why she got it, except that maybe she had hepatitis when she was a kid and didn't even know it and it somehow damaged her liver.

I hope they find out what's going on with your mom and they are able to treat it, or she gets that transplant.

Minor update, she's been on a resiprator the past few days, but now her lungs are getting stronger so they think they may be able to remove it tomorrow. We spoke briefly to the liver transplant team head doctor and he was upbeat, but didn't say a whole lot. The kidney doc said there are 2 things that are causing her kidney problems and she may need dialysis for a while.

So not totally negative, and we're still holding out hope for a recovery. My mother knows when we visit and can nod her head yes or no when we ask her stuff. She still seems 100% aware, so no mental problems that we can see, thank god.

Thanks for the good report. Stay positive.....we'll keep praying for her recovery.
