Prayers Appreciated...

The news is not so great this morning. He had a seizure last night and his bood pressure spiked. The neuro exam was done and the results are not good. His pupils are reactive, but he hasvery little reflex. He has no blink reflex and no gag reflex. The neurologist said that these are things that should be there even for someone in a coma. We're supposed to talk to his regular docs and get an update after they're done with rounds. The attending neurologist is coming in around noon to re-evaluate him. That will be the 24 hour point since they lost him in surgery yesterday. They said that once we get to the 24 hour point, the'l be able to get a better reading on his neuro function. Thank you all so much for your prayers. Please continue. We need them!

Well today we had a talk with the doctors, and my dad's body is shutting down. He remains "stable" with the help of the breathing tube, but it's been determined that there is little to no brain function and that his other systems are shutting down. Despite around the clock efforts, they are unable to lower his body temerature to below 103 degrees. They think that he has aspirated and that he may have pneumonia. He's just too sick. One of the doctors said that there is no chance that he will make a sucessful recovery. The way he put it is that they can keep his body alive, but all of his systems will eventually shut down. So tomorrow we will extubate my dad. They said he will go quickly, and that he will be comfortable. We will have the whole family together to say goodby to him tomorrow morning. This is absolutely the most difficult thing I've ever had to deal with. My grandmother (my dad's mom) is still alive, and is not doing well losing her son. I'm really worried about her. She's in her 80's and very healthy, but still fragile when it comes to things of this nature.

I lost my father suddenly to a serious infection 2 years ago. One minute he's fine the next he's battling for his life and the next you're told he's dying. It was too much to comprehend at the time. Just felt numb.
I can relate to what you must be going through right now and wish I could send some magic to help get you through this.

I'm so sorry to hear this news. In 1989 my mom blew out a cranial aneurysm with a similar result and prognosis. She lived about 10 hours. 20 years later we still remember every detail of the experience. Mom was 65 and retired for 2 months. You have my sympathy and understanding.

I'm so very sorry.. I just found this thread now..I will be praying for you and your family..
