On May 1st we found out our Miniature Schnauzer had developed Diabetes.
We have been giving her insulin shots twice a day. I test her urine for sugar several times a day.

Unfortunately the sugar in her urine stays sky high. I am up to 13 units of insulin. Which is a pretty big injection. Tomorrow we go to see the vet. He is going to do blood tests to see if the her sugar is as high as the urine tests indicate. She doesn't seem to be responding to the insulin at all. If she truly isn't responding then the vet wants to talk to us about euthanizing her.

She is only 10 years old and she is my furbaby. I don't want her to be so sick.
Her is a picture of her in a little coat I sewed her.

I sure hope the sugar levels aren't as high when you go to the vet's tomorrow. Hopefully they can find a way to get things under control. Hugs:hug:

Hope the vet can find some good new for you.

IF the worst case does happen, we are here for you.

Prayers and pixie dust coming your way.

Our mini schnauzer was my baby too. Yours is a cutie.

prayers and pixie dust for you. hopefully the vet's sugars will be good. :flower3:

 and prayers too for you and your furbaby (who is adorable BTW!)

The vet drew blood and checked and it was really high. The reading was 566. Her initial reading before she got any insulin was 510. This seemed to really perplex the vet. But he explained that there is always a time that the sugar will peak. I had given her the insulin shot at 9:00 and it was 11:30 at that point.

I wasn't really convinced of his explanation. But he said she may be insulin resistant so her body is making antibodies to fight the insulin instead of absorbing it.

So I am supposed to continue insulin twice a day and test her urine for sugar. I am supposed to increase the insulin one unit a day until her urine is negative.Today I am giving her 15 units. Her sugar is still sky high on the test papers. When we get to 20 units he wants to see her again.

It is very discouraging to continue getting these high readings. :sad1:

Dreamer & Wisher, I hope there is some response to treatment soon. It's so hard to go through that with a precious fur baby. Many healing wishes coming your way from my 2 pups and me.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I know how you feel.
