Prayer and pixie dust requests--Updated May 2

....:guilty: really in dire need of prayers here......remember I talked about my DB, who is a diabetic, with the problem with his toe?? It's going on 11 weeks now - the wound and infection is in his toe. He has been on MAJOR intravenous meds for about 5 weeks now and in a hyperbaric chamber every day [for an hour] for the last month but his toe is STILL infected. He will find out in less than 2 weeks if:
a) the infection is in the tip of the bone in his toe, they will cut off the whole toe
b) the infection in in his entire toe, they will cut off his foot, to about the ankle
c) the infection has reached the foot, they may cut off to below his knee!

...I am really upset over this; he is only in his mid 40's......:sad1:

[....thanks in advance to all you well-wishers, and my prayers go out to all those who need them... ]

How scary Kimmar. Prayers said for your DB. Also for your priest JRabbit.

Please pray for my cousin's son, Jordan. He is 5 years old and was just diagnosed with this diease. He is in so much pain right now. This affects his joints and most times he cannot walk because of the pain he is in. Here's a little info I got about the disease from my cousin. Does anyone know of anyone who's ever had this?

Henoch-Schonlein Purpura

No one knows what causes it. We do know that it often follows a viral respiratory infection. It seems to be some kind of allergic reaction to the virus. It has also been seen following Strep throat, prescription medicines, bee stings, chemical toxins, cold exposure, and food allergies. It can occur in epidemics. In the Northern Hemisphere it occurs most commonly between November and February. It is often accompanied by a low-grade fever, and just not feeling well. It most often affects children ages 2 through 10, boys more often than girls. The older the child (or adult), the more likely it is to be serious. We know that it can be life-threatening, but that most children recover. "It" is Henoch-Schonlein purpura (HSP).

HSP is a type of vasculitis -- an inflammation of blood vessels -- that was named for Drs. Henoch and Schonlein, who each discovered it independently more than 30 years after it was discovered by Dr. Heberden, who got no credit.

Tiny blood vessels in the skin swell and then hemorrhage, giving rise to the characteristic rash of HSP. The rash usually begins with small hives, or red patches, or red bumps, which can appear anywhere on the body, but especially on the legs and buttocks. This rash represents swollen blood vessels, and the spots blanch with pressure, since pressure moves the blood along the vessel. The allergic nature of the rash often makes it itch. As time passes, blood leaks from the swollen vessels, the rash changes from red to a bruised, purple color (hence the name purpura), and the rash no longer blanches when pressed. As the tiny bruises heal they turn to a rust color, and then fade. Each spot lasts for about five days. Often the rash comes in several crops, and a single child may have a rash of a variety of different colors. All children with HSP have the skin rash (by definition). The rash resolves without trace. ("A savvy mom named Beth Anderson wrote and suggested that when her son had HSP, "the term "blood blisters" was the key to describing the rash for those who couldn't see it in person. Most people have had a blood blister and can relate to the term better than bruises.")

The skin rash is the most obvious, and most common, finding in HSP -- but by no means the most serious. Blood vessels in other parts of the body can also be involved --most frequently in the joints, the intestines, and the kidneys. Rarely, vessels in the muscles, eyes, testicles, lungs, heart, and brain have become inflamed, sometimes leading to serious consequences.

Joint involvement occurs in two thirds of the children. The knees and ankles, particularly, often become swollen, tender, and painful with movement. This arthritis can be quite debilitating, but usually resolves in just a few days. No permanent deformity results, even with the most severe arthritis.

Inflammation of the blood vessels of the GI tract occurs in more than half of the children. Most of these experience abdominal pain, often quite severe. They will often vomit -- sometimes vomiting blood. More than half of the children with HSP will have bloody stools. Serious short-term complications most often come from the GI involvement.

Kidney involvement affects between one-fourth and one-half of the children with HSP. They may have blood and/or protein in the urine. They may even have kidney failure. Serious long-term complications most often come from the kidney involvement.

Full-blown HSP may appear suddenly, or different symptoms may appear gradually over several weeks. The order in which the symptoms appear varies. A child might have unexplained abdominal pain, or knee pain, or bloody stools, or blood in the urine for a week before other symptoms appear to bring the correct diagnosis into focus. The diagnosis is usually made when the rash turns purple.

Most children recover fully. The disease may be quite mild and last only 2 or 3 days. For those with moderate to severe symptoms, though, the disease lasts an average of 4 to 6 weeks, with relapses occurring up to a year later (particularly after the child gets another cold or is re-exposed to the offending agent).

Rarely, children die from complications experienced near the time of diagnosis (bowel perforation, hemorrhage, seizure, stroke, etc.). Having made it through the acute crisis, the long-term outcome depends on the extent of kidney involvement. With no kidney involvement, full recovery is the rule. One-fourth of the children with kidney problems will still have detectable problems years later. By 8 years after onset, however, only 2% will still have any kidney problems (Primary Pediatric Care, Mosby, 1992). Unfortunately, up to half of those will ultimately die from chronic renal failure. The long-term prognosis can often be determined from a renal biopsy early on.

There is no specific treatment for HSP. If the initiating trigger is identified for an individual child, everything possible should be done to remove it. If the cause is thought to be a bacterial infection, such as Strep throat, prophylactic antibiotics are often given once the infection is eliminated, to prevent recurrence. Anti-inflammatory drugs, and sometimes immunosuppresive drugs, are used to provide much-needed symptomatic relief. Steroids may cause dramatic reversal of GI or brain involvement, but have not been shown to be very effective for the kidneys.

HSP is a very serious disease. Thankfully, it is also very uncommon. The odds are that your dear little friend will recover from this with nothing to show for it except some bad memories.

My DH had emergency eye surgery on Monday to repair a detached retina. He is doing well, but it will be a somewhat slow recovery. Please continue praying for us, if you will. Thanks:goodvibes

The recovery isn't going so well, actually, and he may need additional surgery. Please continue to pray for us and that he heals properly.

Also difficult financially, as he has no sick days and has used all vacation days, so not getting any income from being off work.

I would like to put in a prayer for my Grandmother. She was diagnosed with Alzheimers Disease and she hasn't been doing too well lately. She sometimes has good days and bad days and lately she has been having alot of bad days. Its effecting my family, most particularly my dad. Its been especially difficult for him because it is his mother and it hurts him to see her that way. It also hurts me to answer the phone sometimes and get a call from my Uncle for my dad and to have my dad get off of the phone 3 minutes later and say "she's at it again". It scares me cause she does get violent at times. I also worry that she'll forget who I am one day. I don't know how I would be able to handle that. She's started to froget my birthday and even how old I am. My grandma, when I was little, was my best friend in the entire world. It just hurts me so much to know that this illness has changed her into this different person who is a complete polar opposite from what she used to be. Any sort of prayer would be a blessing for my family. Thank you so much.

Hi,

I really need prayers my 9 year old daughter had a bump almost looked like a pimple on her head last year. I told her to the doctor they sent me to a determologist they said it was a hair follicle that she was too young to have the procedure done to come back in a year. I took her last Month I called for the biopsy results they told me they needed a second opinion that they were lost they called on thursday and it is a mole and is cancerous. They removed the mole I go to a new doctor tomorrow and they are going to remove a piece of her scalp to make sure it hadn't spread.

Please pray for us I am so scared! I have read alot of things about it and it sounds positive but I am still thinking the worse.

Prayers to you mindyd and your entire family, especially your darling daughter.

Please add my family and me to your prayers.

Today has been a very bittersweet day..... I talked to my oldest daughter today for the first time in almost 6 months, who had become upset with us and moved away from home after turning 18.... and we are going to go out for the evening together tomorrow, that is the good part of my day, but I am praying that I handle every second tomorrow with her in a patient and forgiving way, and with an open ear and a Loving Heart!

The news that really hit me hard today was that my Mom's test results came back positive for Cancer. She is scheduled for surgery (hysterectomy) next Wednesday and hopefully it will all be able to be removed and it hasn't spread, but we won't know that until the surgery. Please remember my Mom and pray for comfort for her, as she is scared! Also, I don't live very close to her, so I am not sure if I will be able to make to see her, hopefully it works out I can.

Please add my mother to your prayers. She is 67 and has been losing weight since November. In December she fell and fractured her sacral bone. She has been in a wheelchair as the only treatment for this type of fracture is to stay off your feet. The doctor ordered some blood work (tumor markers) when I expressed concern over her weight loss. The test came back positive for cancer but they haven't been able to find the location. She goes for a body scan on Monday and then has an appointment with the oncologist on the following Monday.

This is only one of many things that has been heaped upon her in life. But she is such a positive, happy, loving women. She has great faith that she as passed on to all her children and grandchildren.

Please pray for a diagnosis that is treatable and that God will sustain her through the treatment.

Please pray for me and my family.

For me because I can't seen to find a
"right" diagnosis since november. I am also visiting my orthopedist on may 13 and please pray for a good visit. Also pray for my sister.

Pray for some DISers that have become dear friends:*angwil*,etc...

Thanks. Prayers for you guys also!

Please pray for my mom

For the past couple years she hasnt been able to eat much. Each time she would eat, she would get sick. She is now getting worse. She can now only eat ceral and fruit and thats it. Drs do not know whats wrong with her. She was tested all kinds of things a couple yrs back and hasnt been back to the drs since then because she cant afford it. They dont have medical insurance and they have very little money. Im hoping once DH and I get back from our Disney trip we can start saving up money and give it to her so she can go to some specialist to see whats going on and see if they can diagnose it finally. I've been praying, but my mom really could use the extra prayers and pixie dust.

If you know of anyone who has the same problem, hardly can eat and getting sick after they eat, please let me know what it is and if theres any treatments for it. Me and my stepdad both have been looking online for answers but really havent found anything.

Also please pray for my stepdad. His MS is getting worse as well.

I find great difficulty in asking for prayers that don't "measure" against these requests for health and healing...but the Spirit is moving me to ask for prayer and I won't say no to that request! :)

We moved to a farm last November, feeling led by God to start a horse ministry and give our children a home with more opportunities and responsibilities...it was of God and we moved...our other home however has not sold and we're going on 11 months, the extra mortgage is a burden but even more my dear husband has been working two jobs to cover the bills and we are assured in His plans and know that it will sell, I just feel led to please ask for prayer today on these issues. Help us use this period in our life to glorify Him.

Thank you all so much and I will be praying for the needs before me!

Tara

Prayers to those that need them... and even those that don't!

I just found out yesterday that I have a tumor in my right ovary. The doctors have suggested to remove completely the right ovary and tube. Not sure if it is cancerous or not until they do a biopsy after surgery. The tumor has made my ovary slightly enlarged by 2cm.

Please pray with me as I struggle with taking these decisions and what is forthcoming.
