I am considering teaching as a second career. My school district has a certification program for people like me with a non-education college degree and real life experience in their choosen field. I am qualified in a "critical need" subject. Praxis I & II scores are required prior to admission into the program. I am confidient that I will pass Praxis I and Praxis II for my subject area. However, I have no course work in Learning and Teaching. Any suggestions on reference materials for passing the Learning & Teaching 7-12 Praxis II?

Where in MD are you?

Have you checked out the Kaplan or Princeton Review prep books? They are normally available in bookstores. If not, I am sure Amazon would carry something similar.

Check out the Praxi website, too. I know there are several "Suggested Prep" sections. You might be able to purchase a manual directly from them, or purchase some of the old test questions/answer keys.

If you're looking for an actual class, look into Sylvan Learning Centers, as I know they do a lot of standardized test prep work. Also, DH took a GMAT prep course through Princeton Review. You may be able to find courses like that.

Good luck and thank you for joining a fiedl that is in such demand :goodvibes

I'm in Frederick County.

Thanks for the tips. I am hoping to hear from the HR lady prior to purchasing my study guides. I am a bit nervous about the learning & teaching theory portion. I think if I can get the terminology down, I can pass the exam - at least I'll have a better chance.

I just took (and passed) the PRAXIS II this past April. I got the study books for the Praxis from local bookstores, but the best test prep was from the Praxis website itself. They sell study guides tailored to your specific test. I ended up soley using that book and it really helped me prepare for my exam. Good luck to you!! :wizard:

I personally suggest you take some classroom management classes.(and apossible Psych class)

I honestly think that you can learn much more this way, and be way better prepared this way then by simply reading a book.

That said the Praxis II was pretty simple. I passed it with no problem!
