I'm new to this forum and dvc renting. I've been doing alot of research for a rental in April 2010 and notice there is such a big difference in what members are asking pp, lowest range 8.00 and the highest I've seen is 14.00. Seems to me 10.00 is a reasonable rate but wanted to get some opinions. THANKS

Points may be priced lower because they may be past their banking window, so have to be used or lost, or maybe some folks just want to get their dues/maintenance fees paid on those points.

Thehigher priced points are likely people who own the the highest demand resorts, and can book those resorts at 11 months out.

No matter what, renting is a private transaction between the individuals, and fully negotiable. Remember, though, if the deal goes sour DVC will not step into the dispute on behalf of either party.

Like all things in life, you get what you pay for. Some of the real cheep rates are owners who have never rented before and the don't know what they are doing.

You run the risk of having problems using a owner who has never rented before so take the time and get to know your landlord.

some of the lowest priced ones were the Developer points that had to be used for a booking before october at SSR only and were use it or lose it.
VGC I suspect will go for the highest

What are developer points? Are they only available for SSR?

Developers Points represent the ownership interest still unsold or reclaimed by DVC/DVD. This includes unsold points in new resorts, points acquired by buyers defaults on payments or dues, and contracts acquired by ROFR. They can be used by the developer any way they wish...as promotional one time matching points for new purchases, as give aways for contests, or for cash reservations.

For the last few resorts, as they went to presales and purchasers could not use their points until the resort opened, DVC matched the purchase with one time use points at SSR, Disneyland Hotels, or RCI.

Developers or Incentive points are points that are offered as an incentive. We got them for buying into BLT in March. They could be used until Oct 3 of this year, at SSR or at Disneyland Hotel, Paradise Pier Hotel, or Grand Californian Hotel. Or they could be changed into an RCI week but that wasn't something we even thought about.

So if someone got them but couldn't get away during the time between getting them and Oct 3, they might want to rent them out. (or rather make a reservation and rent that, to be specific)
