I'm creating a slideshow and want to insert a media clip that I took with my camera. I've been able to do it before, but now I'm told that the pic is in the wrong format.

I'm having trouble reformatting the video clip -- does anyone have experience & can help me?

Thanks!

Which format is it in now and which format do you want to convert to, MJ?

It's in .avi, and I've tried converting it to .mpg, and it's just not working.

Kind of frustrating because I've been able to do it before, and I opened a powerpoint presentation that I did last year, and the videos I inserted work fine in that one, so I know the format is compatible - just wondering why I can't do it now.

I have a feeling that the default to play has been changed - I have windows media player, quicktime, and real player on my computer, and I bet that one of them is defaulting, and whichever one that is, doesn't play on power point.

When I do import the picture file as .avi - nothing happens. When I convert it to .mpg, then I get an icon for real player, and the audio plays, but not the video.

Go To Tools, Options, File Types in Media Player and make sure avi is checked for default.

It sounds like Realplayer has taken the liberty of making itself the default player for everything. It has a tendency to do that.

I agree with Lou andmake sure that you have AVI files set to play with Mediaplayer.

Thanks, guys -- so what Tools do I go to? I tried PPT, and there's no option for media player in tools -- where else can I go?

I appreciate your help so much!

In Windows Explorer or My Computer............

Tools>Folder Options>File Types

I'm getting the following message:

Video not available, cannot find 'vids:mjpg' decompressor.

Any light shed would be most appreciated.

I've changed the avi default to media player and quicktime.... and I'm still not getting it

MJ, you're missing a codec.

Go here and you should be able to download it. It is bullet point #3.
