Hi! Im hoping someone can help. I need to rent a power wheel chair that has height adjustment. My husband can no longer stand and needs to slide board from wheel chair to bed etc having a chair that can adjust the height is extremely important. Does anyone know where I can rent one? I'm afraid to take his on the plane as it might get damaged.
Thank you in advance!!!!

I think some ECV rental companies also rent electric wheelchair too. I know not the help you wanted but it could be a starting point to start looking

Finding a place that does powerchair rentals is extremely hard and even if you find one, they’re pretty much gonna be a basic, bare bones Jazzy or Hoveround. Not the highly custom chair that he needs.

Sadly, for a specialized chair like this, it seems that you might need to take the risk and take your own. Pretty much all of the rentals in Central Florida are scooters or standard wheelchairs. You might also try calling a medical supply place instead of the standard scooter rental shops. With a prescription you might be able to rent from a speciality medical supply.

There are a few scooter vendors who also rent power chairs, though PP is correct they are mostly Jazzy. Last I looked, I think Randy's Mobility, Gold Mobility and Orlando Medical Rentals all offer power chairs, possibly others. Orlando Medical Rentals may have more options because I believe they are a full medical supply company.

No, they don’t. I rented from them in 2021 and the only powerchair option they had was a Drive Cirrus Plus and it was EXTREMELY RUN DOWN, a thin cushion that made it felt like I was practically sitting on the frame, and it couldn’t even hold a charge for more than an hour. (Big mistake on my part, I should’ve just brought my own chair. Lesson learned I guess.2FEAA1A0-88A3-412B-9F5D-59308DA02543.jpeg

I understand not being comfortable with flying with a specialized power chair. My daughter’s current power chair does all kinds of things - elevate, tilt, stand, recline. It‘s just too fragile to feel safe traveling with it.
I agree with the other posters that the power wheelchairs for rent are most Jazzy or other very basic chairs.
The company that rents the most specialized equipment is Orlando Medical Rentals. The ones listed on their website are pretty basic and don’t have elevating seats. They may have others that are not on their website, so I would suggest trying them.
Disney also has a contract with Advent Health to provide medical services and kind of medical concierge- they may also be able to help.
If nothing else, they may have some other suggestions, like bed risers that might make the height of the bed closer to the chair

Thank you all for all the information. I will reach out to the companies mentioned. And also Disney for guests with disabilities, maybe they can help, does anyone know the number off-hand?

I don't have any information...it sounds like your options are very limited.

You may need to start researching how to best protect your chair for airplane transport.

i am not aware of any place, anywhere that rents advanced wheelchairs.

An advanced wheelchair can cost $35,000 or more, without exaggerating. A Jazzy is about $3500 and typically rents for $50-$75 per day.

Proportionately the advanced chair would rent for over $500 per day. Not much of a market, I’m afraid.

And how much might rental insurance be? The security hold for damage/theft would be more than many people’s cars, let alone the rest of their vacation.

Yup and the $35k price tag is probably for a chair with all the bells and whistles (seat lift, tilt, recline, and powered legs).

Another choice would be to rent a patient hoist for transfers in your hotel room. They would typically rent for a couple of hundred a week, with you providing the sling.

Scootaround and others usually have them available.

My daughter’s power chair was way more than that.
Because they are expensive and specifically set up for each person, it’s really unlikely any place would rent one.

yes. Several places rent patient lifts.
