Power port on airplane seats?

I just read that there are powerports on airplane seats? Is that true? Is it the regular car adapter cigarette lighter type powerport.

and where is it. I am travelling on SWA in April, do they have it?

Yes the power ports on airplanes are just like the ones in your car. Some planes have them, some don't, check out seatguru.com for info regarding the plane you'll be on.

I haven't seen them in any Southwest 737 I have been in.

Most planes don't have them. Long haul and international flights have them. Also, there are different versions requiring different plugs. I would give your airline a call.

I've seen them in an Airbus but they don't use the car type. I think it had 2 holes. It was on the end of the arm rest, you lift up the tab on the end.

As others have noted, the answer for Southwest is no.

American has cigarette lighter type power outlets on their 737, MD-80, 757, 767, 777 and A300 aircraft (with exception of some aircraft acquired from TWA). All first class rows and some coach rows have them. For the specific rows, see http://www.aa.com/content/aboutUs/ourPlanes/ourPlanes.jhtml

Actually, the connectors are the same. Electronic devices with adapters for 12V-15V cigarette lighter outlets will work in cigarette lighters and in American Airlines' DC power outlets.

Because different laptops have different power requirements and differently shaped power connectors, you have to buy the right adapter -- and the thrid party vendors of those adapters charge a hefty price for these specialized items.

Because different laptops have different power requirements and differently shaped power connectors, you have to buy the right adapter -- and the thrid party vendors of those adapters charge a hefty price for these specialized items.

You may want to check out www.igo.com for some power solutions. The one i have you swap out the end to power from wall, car, or air. The other end you swap out the tips for what you are going to power. Cuts down a little on cords and if you change your laptop you aren't stuck.

I have the IGO. WHile I don't use it on planes (none of my flights ever seem to have the power) It works great for everything except my Cannon Digital Battery!


However, the trade off for power seems to be less space under the seats hence a higher risk of your carryons having to be checked.
