4 days??!!! :scared: Wow!!! Glad to hear you have power finally. Amazing how something so beautiful can wreak so much havoc.

It was prety but 2-3 inches of ice with 6 inches of snow on top ain't much fun.

Ok, Im embarrassed to ask this...but darnit, Im from New Orleans...how am I supposed to know...WHAT IS AN ICE STORM? Ive always just thought it was a snow storm, but apparently thats inncorrect...and I dont imagine its hail...so, what IS it?

A kerosene heater and a small generator to run the tv and the satellite. We have an electric furnace so that was out of the question. I had to connect a generator to my uncle's house today they don't know when his power will be back on.

It is freezing rain, not quite as solid as hail, whatever it lands on it sticks to it making it so heavy it falls to the ground. Our telephone lines were once so heavy with ice they hung low enough for Frank to grab it with his hands and pop it so all the ice came off and it rose back to it's original height.

Well it started out as rain then as it got colder ti started to freeze and stick to everything and just got thicker. Then as it got even colder it turned to snow on top of the ice.

It wasn't much fun. Once we did get out I got hung up in the middle of a road. Went around a blind corner an the top of a hill and there was a tree across the road. You know even a 4x4 won't back up a hill on snow and ice. We were there for about 1/2 an hour as I called everybody I knew for help. Then at the other end of the road a little blue tractor appeared. The guy was blazing a trail through the carnage. He cut the tree out of the way and we went through. It was not much more than a jungle trail weaving around trees and driving over stuff laying in the road.
I even got hung up pulling into my driveway. Went to slow down to pull in and slid nose first into the gate post.

Sounds miserable!

Take it from me, Rog....it is!!! That's one of the reasons I stayed in Florida after moving here with my folks. The other reason is...well......Rick. I was young & in love! Now I'm old & dealing with the reality of what I did when I was young!:rotfl2:

Hey we had one in Ga Back in the late 1980's...Talk about a town not prepared...Our Apt was without power for a week...Had to stay with Dear MIL:sad2: :sad2: :sad2: Different Thread....:rotfl2: Glad you made it thru the storm..

We had a beautiful, miraculous Christmas Eve snowstorm (to us) several years ago. We actually got about 8 inches (don't laugh) of snow. Our entire area shut down for at least a week. The Winter Texans are still laughing at us...but we loved it and we're glad we don't have to deal with that every winter.

We where out of power several days after IKE. So I feel your pain. The only difference is we had plenty of heat and no ice. Where you had plenty of ice and no heat.

Glad you're through it! That stuff can be nasty! Not to mention the lack of milk and eggs in the store!

Our heater kept the house above 60 so it wasn't bad. The only problem was it wouldn't last all night so it would go out about 5:00 in the Morning. And I wasn't going out on the deck as 5:00 to fill it back up also the generator ran out about the same time.
Here is a section of that wonderful road we got stuck on. It got a lot worse around the corner but the wife didn't take anymore pictures she was to buisy hanging on and hoping I could get through.
