Potty training woes.

Here we go again, only this time is defintely different!
My boys were easy. I am a firm believer in not pushing it w/ potty training. I waited until they were ready and willing and it went relatively smoothly. Now, the girl has other ideas! She is 2.5 yo. She has decided that she doesn't like the way her diaper feels when it's soggy. Good, right? Read on....... She takes her diaper off herself several times a day without informing me. So I get out the potty and the Princess undies and she's all thrilled. Here's how it's been going since: She is pee'ing all over my house! I'm ready to lay down newspaper like she's a puppy or something! She is obviously not feeling the sensation to go until it's too late, way too late! It's not like she stops it, runs to the potty and finishes. I want to put the diaper back on, wait a bit and try later, but she won't go for that. She loves those darn Disney underwear! Tonight she did a poop in the undies. That was my "Calgon, take me away!" moment for the day.

Sounds like she's not ready yet. :)

My DD was pushing FOUR before she was totally trained, and no system, rewards, bribery or ANYTHING worked until she was ready.

She's still YOUNG, I think I'd go back to diapers for a while and wait a couple more months to try again. If she resists those then get some Disney character pull-ups (if they still make those!) and try that.

Good luck!

Not good if she is taking her diaper off. No advice, {{{HUGS}}

I second the Disney pullups, my oldest daughter now 5 was in the pullups until she was almost 3! One day she just decided on her own to use the potty and I swear to you she never had an accident after that day. She also went through the peeing on my floor stage,Thank goodness I have tile floors LOL.
I promise you will get through it. My DD was super tough to train but it eventually did happen. ( By the way my youngest DD is 2 and she calls me probably every 10minutes to tell me her diaper is falling off. Hmmm I wonder how that happened, it looks like we are going to be in diapers for a while longer with her also LOL)
Good Luck

WM Michelle your post gives me hope, lol. My first 2 ds potty trained at 3. Ds #3 is now 3 yrs 3 months and he is not planning on using the potty any time soon. I dont push him but if I ask if he'd like to give it a shot (literally :p ) he says no, he is not going to use the potty. With 2 in diapers I get very tired of seeing poop, lol. Hope ds #4 is more cooperative.
Crazymomof4--hope yours starts going easier!

Same thing here!

what about pull ups? My dd cant get them off as easily. Maybe that would help? I hate them but if it keeps my floor clean Im all for them :)

Good luck, you are not alone!

Ditto!!!

My 2.5 yo dd is the same way. She does not want to go potty but yet does not want to keep her diaper on. I told dh to try and put pull-ups on her and take her to the potty every hour. He just started so not sure how long it will take. She does tell him if she needs her diaper changed at time and heads to the changing area.
My older two didn't really get potty trained til 4. They were mostly there by three but still had accidents. They had constipation so I don't think that helped either

My 3 were all potty trained by 2.5. I agree with putting her on the potty every hour. It is a pain but maybe it will help keep your floors clean and dry! Potty training is definately time consuming. It should get easier with the nicer weather when they can wear less clothes and be outside more.

INSISTED that he be trained....so he went to Disney in October....when he came home....I gave him two days to rest and then I stripped him naked cause he was peeing in his undies....then I watched him have a hissy fit ....he ran to the potty and peed into it.....not one accident since them.....he was two and a half....

My DD did that exact same thing at 2 1/2. She would stand right next to the potty and pee on the floor. I tried to be patient and thought that she just wasn't ready, but she didn't want to wear a diaper or a pull up, she wanted those big girl undies. I finally snapped one day and told her that if she peed on the floor again that she would have to sit in her time out chair and wear diapers again. She did it again and I put her in a diaper and sat her in the chair and she cried. She only sat there for at the most 1 minute until she calmed down and from then on went in the potty every time. Never wore a diaper or pull up again and even stayed dry at night. She did spend most of the summer nakie from the waist down.

I think she was doing it for attention, so we also did a chart after the time out episode and she would get a sticker for each time in the potty. It worked great and after a week we went to Toys R Us and picked out a nice prize.

I am sure your DD will get the hang of it soon.

Its at Barns & nobel for 9.50! I hear books help kids! Good luck!
And talk about a calgon moment.... my best friends son goes in his pants, takes it out & hides it! Last week he hid one behind the recliner!

I offer my opinion that your DD is ready for this. She is motivated and wants to do it. Accidents will happen! She is learning.

My DD did much better at 2.5 if she was naked. If she was wearing underwear, she would pee in them. If she was naked, she would remember that she wasn't wearing a diaper. My DH wanted to quit and put her back into diapers because of the accidents but I wouldn't let him and within 2 weeks, she was doing great and we haven't looked back since.

So, my advice is, don't give up too early. Stay away from diapers and pull-ups. These will only prolong your agony.

Let us know how it goes!
Peggy

We tried everything ... the naked baby route, pull-ups, undies, potty candy. Nothing really worked until the spring when my DD was 3 1/2. She gets too busy to think about going potty.

I now ask her if she needs to use the potty a lot and I also chart her progress with stickers on the fridge. She gets a sparkly pony "great job!" sticker for a dry day, a lady bug "try harder" sticker for one accident and a frowny face for more than one accident. If she gets 4 pony stickers in a week she can pick out a toy at Toys-R-Us. I'll be bumping that up a day every couple of weeks until she has to dry all week long. Unfortunately, she onlt got 3 pony stickers last week and didn't get a toy. She has only had one accident so far this week, so I think she really missed her "toy run". She also still wears pull-ups to bed (and wets them). I'll tackle night-time wetting after day-time dryness settles in. Plus, she crawls into bed with us about half the time and I don't want her peeing in my bed!

:D Crazymomof4,
I feel your pain!! DS is 3 years 8 months and I am hoping and praying that we are finally on the way to no more diapers. We have been working with him on and off from about age 2.5. I tried everything I could think of and still no luck. If I put him in undies and asked him every hour if he had to go, he would say no and then pee his pants five minutes later. I got sick of cleaning that so we tried pull- ups. Same deal. Well, this week I got brave. I took everything off of him from the waist down. I put his potty right next to him where he was playing and finally found success :teeth: . He has been peeing and pooping like a pro ever since. I did try this when he was younger but he just peed where he was so I don't think anything will work until the child is ready.

Good luck to you. If she continues to go in the undies, maybe you could try a diaper with the undies over the top? Then she gets to wear the pretty undies but mommy can keep her sanity LOL :D !

My older DD was very easy to train. She was fully potty trained 2 months after her 2nd B.day. I put her potty seat in front of the t.v. and after she went potty we would sing a song I made up and dance around the house conga style. DD #2 wasn't as easy she was 2 yr.s 7 month's when she was potty trained. The seat in front of the t.v. didn't work and neither did the song and dance. One day she said I have to go potty and I ran with her into the bathroom and she sat on the big girl potty and that was it. She didn't like the training seats. Pull-ups never worked with my girls, it seemed like they just got lazy when wearing them and made hardly any effort at all to use the potty seat.

DD has the Everyone Poops book. SHe loves it and always asks us to read the "poop" book. There is also one called "The gas we pass" it's great! :)

I feel your frustation. My 2nd dd is now 3.6 and just potty trained 2 months ago. She is a very verbal child and would always tell me no she wasn't ready!! Well one day she just went on the potty and that was it. She was done. And I just showered her praise, we went shopping for new undies, the whole bit. She does not even wear pull ups to bed. One night shortly after she "trained" she turned to me and said
"you know mom, when you're ready you just know it"

Truer words were never spoken.

Good Luck!

~So many gave this suggestion, so I am trying it now. She had been dry all day until now (3pm) I think she had an accident bc. her brother is home from school and she got distracted by the playing. We'll see.

Thanks, everyone for all of your words of advice and encouragement. After having the 3 boys first, sometimes I feel like I am a first time mother with my DD. She is SO different from the boys in so many ways and this potty training is one of them.

:sunny: It's finally sunny here!!!
