Potty Training Help Needed!!!

My daughter will be 3 in a couple weeks and I was thinking of trying putting her in underwear during the day and telling her she has to go potty in her own potty. She already picked out her dora underwear so I hope that she will enjoy wearing those and not want to wear diapers anymore. (except at night) I will let you all know how it goes.

Have you tried rewarding his brothers when he goes. Round here every body got a skittle when youngest went pee and two skittles for no. 2's The brothers were very encouraging.

pant or shorts - no underwear (feels too much like a diaper at this point in training).

This worked for my DS when he was 3 too. Our trouble was other types of accidents but it is worth a shot. Good luck and you know this won't last forever -- even if it seems like it is!

My DD went pee fine on the potty, no problem. She refused to poop in the potty. We put her in underwear because I think she got confused (do I go in the potty or in my pants) by pull ups.

She got so constipated from refusing to use the potty that we have to give her "medicine" for it (if you know what I mean). We took her in the bathroom, inserted the "medicine" and set her on the potty. She has never pooped in her pants since.

I learned with my 3 girls that it is up to them, the more you want it to happen, the longer it takes. My son was 2.5 and I showed him how to go- (btw putting boys on the potty facing the tank is great for urine control and great for the boys who don't want to stand). He did it himself. I totally left it up tp him- if he went, great, if he peed in his pants, he helped clean up. I also don't think pullups are good- they confuse. I also foung commando worked well. Realize also language development is tied with potty learning- slow speakers will be slow potty learners. So good luck and remember to be patient, and they will figure it out before college!;)

Unfortunately I don't have any sage advise or way to solve your problem, but I agree that they have to decide to want to do it, I think :lmao: now I am spoiled as my DD4 was potty trained at 20 months due to my DH, and by DS2 is potty trained as of 27 months, but he picked up pee alot faster than poop, in fact he would sit on the potty and then go poop in his pants. Finally on the 4th of July he kept saying his belly hurt, so I told him to sit on the poppy while mommy went to find some medicine. I knew that his belly hurt because he had to poop and I kept putting him back on the potty. While I was off "finding medicine" he let it go and pooped on the potty! It was magically and he recieved the most praise from me and my whole family and since that day, he poops on the potty. Don't know why but they need to decide to do it, none of the bribing I tried worked, although DD was a different story and responsed very well to coloring papers and special treats

I'm in a similar boat with DD. She's been dry during the day for months now, but she refuses to poop in the potty. She simply brings me a diaper and asks me to put it on her when she needs to go.

Frankly, this is ok with me. While I'd prefer that she be completely trained, I know I can't force her to use the potty, so I've backed off. I don't even offer her the option anymore, but she knows if she does use the potty, she'll get a treat.

If your son can control himself (as in, he knows he needs to poop and will choose an appropriate place to do so), then I assume it shouldn't be a problem with preschool. You can tell him that he can use diapers to poop, but only at home, and see how he does. As long as he doesn't have accidents at school, I don't see why they'd be concerned.

Both my sons were over 4. My son Aidan who turned 4 in June has just completed potty training about 2 weeks ago. I begged and pleaded, bribed and all that stuff. He could care less.

I was laying down with him while he was watching a movie and I was looking through a Parents magazine and came across a picture of a older boy and a toddler using their potties. The toddler was of course on the training toilet. I said to Aidan, "look isn't that cool! he's using the potty just like his big brother!" He said, "THAT'S SUPPOSE TO BE ME!" I said with enthusiasm, "You want to try that?" He got up and went to use the potty.

Now for the next month he was petrified to use the big potty. He couldn't tell me why. I showed him we have a big potty training seat SPONGEBOB and he still had no interest. So he would ask for a diaper to poo in. Then when the diapers were gone (I wasn't going to buy anymore!) he pooed in his underwear. I told him that the potty was very hungry and needed to eat or he's going to get very sick. He must have felt some guilt (? LOL) and said "ooookay". That was it! 100% potty trained! Thank god cuz I am sick of buying diapers!

Good luck!!!

Ahhh.......the joys of potty training:headache: :headache: :headache:

I'm still having some issues with this myself - my 5yr old can't make it through the night w/o wetting, so she's still in pull-ups:rolleyes:

I gave both my girls a treat after they went on the potty.
My 1st DD got M&M's, and my 2nd DD got Lifesavor Gummies (these were their favorite candy at the time). The amount they received was determined by what type of potty they did.

I also had them be bottomless in the house alot, because they would always used the toilet when they had nothing on (I think that when they have something on there butt, whatever it is, they think they can go in it - they don't know). This helped them learn when they had to go on their own, w/o me having to think for them. I do believe this helped make the potty training a little easier for everyone (plus, little kids love running around naked).

Good luck :wizard:

I am in the process of training my 2 year old. He will be starting a parents day out program in Jan and they require all children to be trained or atleast out of diapers.

Putting cheerios in the potty worked for a while. Until, he fished a cheerio out of the potty and tried to eat it. Yuck. :scared1: I also have a "reward" basket that has all sorts of cheap toys, books, snacks, etc, that he gets to choose from when he uses the potty properly. The basket stays put up until he uses the potty again. It has worked so far and he gets excited when he goes AND gets a treat to boot. :cheer2:

He is a huge Elmo fan. He has a big Elmo that I use to show him that Elmo goes to potty too. I sit Elmo on the potty chair (lid down) and when he sees Elmo, he tells Elmo to move so that he can sit down.:rotfl:

But...he has been sick for the past 2 wks so we have not been training....but we he does feel better....its going to be potty training or bust! :rotfl2:
