I have a very stubborn 2 year old who seems ready for potty training. We've been trying for a few months now and she just doesn't want to do it, even though she is very aware of being wet and having poop in her diaper.

I think it's time we go to the potty training dolls. But no one I know has used these. Has anyone here used the dolls, and if so where did you get it and how did you decide on it?

Thanks!

Did you see the Dr. Phil episode with the doll?

Hey Jenn. Yes I did. And since I've tried the conventional way, I thought that now is a good time to get this doll:) DD has been so good in learning and development, really clever and bright. But she is soooo stubborn about the potty! I hope this doll and Dr. Phil's method works...

I just tried this method with my DD and the stupid doll leaked all over and was totally useless!!! It was a Fisher Price doll - so don't get theirs!!

Anyway - we had to train for school and I thought we had but she doesn't even try at home - but goes to school twice a week in underwear, uses the potty no problem and has yet to have an accident.

She is clearly being stubborn and I gave up trying - my mom yelled at me for putting a diaper on her at home the other day and I told her my limit was 4 accidents in one day!!!

I am just going to wait for her to decide - she turns 3 in October - it's not like she will go to college in diapers!!!

I had two boys and the older is notoriously stubborn. The first one was not trained until he was almost 4 but still had bed wetting issues till he was 12. I learned not to stress the second one and he did train pretty much on his own yes he was 3.5 but boys are slower than girls. I did not believe the doctor when he told me with the first one that they would tell me when they were ready and it was a hassle. I did what he said with the second one and he was a breeze. I had the luxury of having family babysit the first one when I worked and stayed home with the second from the age of 2. Either way, they both trained at appox. the same age. I really think that if a child is not developmentally ready both emotionally and physically they will not train.
I would NOT however keep switching back between diapers and pants. This sends the message that it is okay to wet when you have the diaper. I know it sounds cruel but(and I hated to do it too) let them stay in the wet pants for a while before you change them because the feeling is not good. I would never recommend this for a child who cannot remain dry for long periods of time, only for kids who are playing a control game(ie" dry in school all day but then revert back to diapers when they get home).

I am sooo glad that I am not alone! I have a little one that will be 3 in Oct also. She will go in the morning after she gets out of bed, but the rest of the day is a hassle. This child can talk to you in complete sentences, but refuses to sit after the first go around. I was thinking about a visit to the dollar tree today and buying horns and hats for a "potty party", but I don't think I am going to buy the doll. Good luck!

PS: You would think having 3 older sisters would inspire her, but no. :(
