Potty Training and Park Tips Please

I didn't wait until my daughter let me know she needed to use the restroom, so I would take her frequently to make sure she wouldn't have an accident. WDW is such a stimulating fun environment that she would more than likely wait too long to tell me, due to her not wanting to take a break from the fun! I like to take her as well when we arrive at a resturant or QS and when we leave. Also I would have her go whenever we were getting ready to leave our room whether she said needed to go or not. I did bring a pull up and wipes just in case and never needed them but I still think it is better to have them just in case. Have a great time!

I used to ask my daughter if she had to go potty. Usually she said no. So I told her that maybe we should go try "just in case". It worked!

I agree you should bring some pull ups just in case. We also keep a couple of puppy pee pads to line the carseat or stroller if they are over tired and might have an accident

Great advice! Not much I can add because everyone has pretty much covered it, but we did do something a little different with both our kids. We had them in pull-ups at the parks (Disneyland, but would have done the same at WDW too), and when we got back to the room and were going to be hanging around the resort, we had them change into regular underwear to build their confidence, lol. Other than that, pretty much what other parents have been mentioning - Know were the bathrooms are and take them frequently (We went whenever we passed one, and in between rides. If they didn't have to go, it was a great opportunity to wash hands).

Almost forgot!!! We brought a nightlight for the room so when they had to get up to go in the night, they would be able to navigate the unfamiliar surroundings.

Everyone in your party should agree that ALL of you will use the restroom before joining any queue for a ride. ALL of you. That way, the little one understands that's it's not his fault for taking the time, that adults do this as well. Once you set the tone and everyone is doing it, he'll want to do it as well.

If anyone has a child that is scared of the automatic flushing toilets remember that BABY CARE located in every park has toilets that are both lower to the ground AND manual flushing. Every baby care location also has mickey stickers that conveniently fit over the sensors of automatic flushers for when you're not near the baby care location.

Ooh! I was wondering about this! We always use the good ol' family washrooms when we can as DS is terrified of how loud public washrooms are. And toddler sized potties just make life so much easier. It looks like we'll very familiar with the Baby centres!

BTW - I am taking note of the potty training diapers as well as the covers/folding potty seats for when we do need them! So thanks all for those ideas.

We have Sloomb trainers, I forget the exact name. But they are super soft and underwear like. They do not have a PUL layer though, so clothes will get wet, but they do prevent puddles. We call them undies, and while DS knows they're different, they're so comfy he doesn't mind wearing them. I'd recommend them for when your kid is like 99.9% potty trained and you just want a little extra reassurance. They do however take foreeevvverr to dry.

One more thing re: a nightlight! Philips lighting makes several Disney character personal nightlight buddies (I guess you can call them that?) Anyway, they come in Mickey/Minnie/sully/mike/Olaf and Spider-Man version. There is also a Sophia. The characters charge at a mounting base that needs a cord, but after the character is charged, kids can bring them into bed, snuggle and use them as portable night lights. The charge lasts around 6or so hours depending on how long it's on. The character lights up by tipping it back and forth, there are no on/off switches, and you just put it back on the base to get charged when you leave for park and it's ready at night for help during night bathroom times. We love it.

I had potty trainees and I can recall that they would have wet themselves had I not just did mandatory potty breaks every so often. They were just having too much fun to stop and let me know they had to go. Pottying in a toilet was clearly too much responsibility for them.
