Potential storm in the gulf

According to the National Weather Service, there is a tropical storm forming off the coast of Central American that is forecast to move north toward the western gulf area. The storm could potentially impact the Mexican ports (Cozumel, Costa Maya) and perhaps Grand Cayman depending on where it heads. With so many of the cruise line (DCL included) having altered their originally planned Eastern Caribbean itineraries, what would they do next?

which cruises will be affected by this?
Looks like any destined for Cozumel on Friday or Saturday. It is expected to be a fairly strong tropical storm but sub-hurricane strength. Whether this actually closes the ports or causes ships to reroute is TBD, but I wouldn't expect too much. The storm isn't especially organized and is going to weaken as it passes over Nicaragua and Honduras. While it will gain strength as it heads back out to sea it won't be but a fraction as bad as Irma or Maria were. I would be surprised if a ship scheduled for Saturday would even need to divert from there (though that depends on what route it is taking to get there).

The only cruise over there should be a Western on the Fantasy that should hopefully pass thru that area after the storm has cleared. Keeping fingers crossed that the ports dont sustain any damage!

We’re sailing the 10/7/17 Fantasy that was originally an Eastern but switched to a Western itinerary. If the track holds, the storm would be clear of the area before our scheduled stop at Cozumel on Monday. Here’s hoping!

All cruises are adventures. Of our eight, two were changed with interesting results. The mouse believes in safety first, it is their highest priority. We always take a nip of wine with us to each corner of the DCL globe, let fantasy meet reality, add a pinch of pixie dust and take plenty of photos.

I would think if they can't do the Carribean, they would simply go north instead, probably to Canada.

Happened to the cruise that was after ours on our last cruise, but that was on the Magic out of New York. We found afterwards that we could have done an on board booming for the next cruise for a little bit of nothing because of how many last minute cancellations they had, but oh well.

Out of PC? Highly unlikely. They wouldn't have time to reach anywhere.

Latest track (see Post #2, thanks @PrincessShmoo) has the storm potentially hitting the NOLA area on Sunday Morning. The path to get there would cut right across the normal route for ships from FL going to Cozumel, not to mention passing directly over that island. For ships that leave FL on a Saturday or Sunday this probably won't be a problem though.
