So, I talked my niece into running the half and then scream teaming for the full. I registered for Goofy back in January. She registered for the half around late March/early April. She did her own registration.
Tonight I decided to print out the waiver form for her (she's been working double shifts, so I thought I would print it just case she forgets.) Oh, boy is she going to be surprised :scared1: She's listed as running the FULL. I know she was not planning for the full. She's getting nervous now, because she's working so much and training much less.

Is there any possibility she can switch over to the half? I haven't told her what I found yet. I hope she printed out a copy of her registration and it says half-marathon on it. But if she goofed and registered for the full by mistake, is there anything she can do, other than suck it up and do the full?

Terri

Everything I've read and been told, you can not switch once registered. If her original confirmation says she registered for the 1/2, then she can argue it but if it says she registered for the full like her waiver says, the full it is!

Without some proof of actually registering for the half she is running the full.
That will be a long day.

If she has and active.com account she can independently verify registrations on Active. If she registered without creating an account with active, then a printout of the receipt or a copy of the credit card statement is all you have to go by. Being an RD on a few local races, it's not too easy for EMMI (the race director) to make this error. They are taking Active's data and transfering it directly to their database. It's easy to goof up proof of time but incorrect race is not so easy.

I am thinking she hit the worng line on the registration form. I am thinking she hit the full while expressing her real unspoken desire to run the full; while her conscious self was in complete denial (Whatever that means) :scared1:

I am sorry there is not a better answer.

Thanks for the responses. I had a feeling she'd be out of luck. Now to figure out how to break the news to her.

I have no doubt she can finish the race physically. It's the mental part that might freak her out.

Terri

Well Terri if she does plan on doing the full if that is actually what she signed up for will you be there with her? If so that should help her mentally. I know I would be more relieved to have someone else with me pushing me through. Hope you guys can get it straightened out and good luck.

It very well could be that she registered for the half and a mistake was made. It will be up to her to prove it though. As Charles said, she can get a copy of her registration from Active or, failing that, hopefully she printed out her registration when she signed up.

If she has a common name it might be that you are looking at the wrong registration.

If she did in fact register for the full you could always speak to the people at the expo. While it is policy that she is out of luck nothing is absolutely written in stone. Many times the rule is there to keep a wave of people from switching but the rule can be bent. Some polite diplomacy on your part with the rep might just get the switch done. Just remember the whole honey vs vinegar thing and be as nice as possible.

Just break it to her like this: "Hey, remember how you're going to be doing a half-marathon? Well, if one is good, then two will be much better... in fact, one right after the other" :)

Good luck with everything, might just end up being a "really long" half-marathon :)

Or how about....I have decided to do a half marathon with you and then you can do one with me!! We can do this on Sunday the 10th, at WDW!! Yea, us!!! :cheer2:

"Even better than running a race through TWO disney parks, how about we run a race through all FOUR of them?"

... and they made it longer. (Mutter something about converting to the metric system...)

Well, I told her. She wasn't home when I spoke to her, but she about freaked. When she got home and checked her paperwork, she realized she hit the wrong button and did, indeed, sign up for the full.:scared1:

I told her not to worry, she'll be fine. Told her instead of a Donald, she'll be getting a Mickey! :cool1:

I'd be happy to run/walk with her, but she's much faster than me. I told her she could finish, get her medal, snacks, massage, photos and then come back to look for me at the finish line. ;)

Seriously though, I think she'll be fine. She wanted to know if she could walk. Told her yep, we have a lot of WISH walkers. Told her to take it a little slower, do some walk breaks through the aid stations and listen to her body. When it says walk, walk. When she feels like she can run, run. And when she's done, she'll be a marathoner! (Surprise!)
Plus I told her of all the support she'll see on the course from the WISH team!

Hi Terri,

To put memory of race with name. I sat with you on the bus back to the resort post-Half marathon 2006.

My 1st thought, well maybe 2nd cause the 1st was :scared1:.... So my 2nd thought was most definitely make sure she knows to look for the shirts. Course some of us might be zombie-like but sometimes it's just nice to know your hanging out for a few strides :thumbsup2

Sending PD for a great 1st marathon for her :wizard: Hey at least she didn't have more than 1 week to freak! LOL See? She's already ahead

Remind her POSITIVE thoughts all the way thru!

I really hope that you can get her into the race she trained for. I am very new here, so I want to tread carefully but it might not be a great idea to do 26 miles if she has trained for 13. Has she ever done a full? Maybe she has a running history that I'm not aware of.

Please urge her to be cautious if she does the full. It would be a real shame to have an unpleasant race experience turn her off this fabulous sport.

That said, I hope it all goes perfectly for you and you both have the races of your dreams. Best of luck!

All joking aside, this is the best post on this thread. I would urge caution. I know from personal experience that this is possibile but if you push just a little too hard or farther than you should it can be bad.

Go slow and let her complain about the slow than pace for the first 20 miles; then let her set the pace.
