Potential problem for DVC APs for my family!

Just starting to plan out my upcoming trip at the end of April. Want to get my AP vouchers with the DVC discount early so that I can order the DDE in advance.

Well, I thought of a potential problem for my family! Our DVC membership is under both my husband's and my name. My name on my card does include my maiden name as the middle name and my married last name.

Problem is that all my picture IDs only have my maiden name and not my married last name. Never got around to changing it and we've been married over 8 years! Although, it was changed on my marriage certificate. :earseek:

A third of the cards (credit, and otherwise) in my wallet have my maiden last name, a third have my maiden plus my married name and a third has just my married last name! Lol! And would you believe I never really had a problem with this situation? I just make sure that I always book airline tickets and other items that need an picture ID with my maiden name.

Funny thing is that I have purchased APs in the past and some times they use my maiden name as per my ID and some times they use my married last name. The latter probably happens when they don't change the last name after issuing my DH and kids' APs. I never had a problem either way even when I had to get the AP reissued when the magnetic strip was de-magnetized. They probably realized that I was the same person by my birthdate. But just in case, I had a wallet full of cases with both names and a combination!

I called DVC MS to order the AP vouchers and inquired about the name discrepancy. After determining that my membership ID card had both my maiden and married names on it she said it should be o'kay but it would really be up to guest relations because they are the ones who issue the vouchers and activate them for passes.

Then I realized another potential problem. My driver's license still has my parent's address on it. We live right next door to them and since I work for my parents and the office is out of their home, I never bothered to get it changed. In fact, most of my mail gets delivered there since I'm there ALL day. The mailman even delivers mail addressed to me at home to "my office," next door at my parents. My DH, of course, has our correct home address on his DL. Of course he didn't change his until a few years ago when he had to renew. Prior to that it still had HIS parent's address!

I still use my maiden name for business purposes so I don't want to change my name on my driver's license. Otherwise, I will run into much bigger problems when I try to get my business signature notarized. However, I had wanted to change my name on my passport to my married last name with my maiden name as my middle name last year when I had to renew it. BUT I couldn't find my marriage certificate anywhere!! :earseek: :confused3 So I just renewed under my maiden name again.

One of these days, I will have to go down to the marriage bureau ? to get a duplicate copy. But who has time during the week day? Sigh.

Anyways, based on my situation, MS felt that I shouldn't have a problem. I have a wallet full of ID, the name on my picture ID is similar to that on my member card, and the addresses are similiar enough. Based on prior AP purchases, I don't think it will be a problem either. But I won't rest easy until I get those activated APs in my hands!

Anyone else have an identity crisis? :teeth: Or lose their marriage certificates? :rolleyes1

I would think as long as your DVC card has your maiden name as the middle name you should not have a problem. If your member card says Jane Doe Smith and your ID Jane Doe, they should accept that. What I would do in the meantime is get a copy of the marriage license showing your married name, that should resolve any question. Depending on where you live, you may even be able to order that online. You should have that anyway.

I understand where you're coming from---my last name on my DL is hyphenated (maiden-married) and some cc's are in one name, some the other. Voter registration and passport are in my maiden name.

From what you've said, I don't think you'll have any problems. Actually, I see an advantage as far as AP's go. If both your name and your dh's are listed as co-owners on the DVC, and since you have a different address (the same as your parents' address), you could also buy ap's for your parents if they wanted them! :wizard:

True. But since my parent's have Florida Driver's license or ID cards it wouldn't save them any money. Lol! Those FL seasonal passes are dirt cheap!

I think it says on the DVC site that the "address" must match what is on file for your membership. You must show that anyone getting an AP lives at the same address. I think that with step families and people keeping their original names it would be impossible to go by names only to prove who is and isn't family.

Having passed ROFR, I will next be looking at closing. The membership will be in my name, what about the other family members that live with me who have different last names? Is it all ok so long as all the IDs have the same address?

I have an even more interesting problem. I am active duty military and my driver license doesn't match my mailing address where I live because I maintain my residency in another state. I have been given differing answers from MS to include faxing them copies of my orders, a copy of my license, a copy of my military ID, and the same for any family members who may be residing with me. Given they have proof of my employment for the loan info and still show me as being employed by the military I don't see why I should have to send all this to MS. . . One CM said to call MS directly and receive the discount through them for the voucher. I just hope this works as giving copies of my military ID and orders is not something I feel comfortable doing. Too much info on those!

I thought you couldn't get the DDE with just the vouchers? I thought I read that you need the actual AP to get it?

I believe you can get it with just the voucher #. Members have posted that you cannot get it with a will call #.
