I was really disappointed by it. I ahve not gone to an opening night movie in a long time and I was expecting more I guess. It was funny and veyr dramatic but it lacked something that the first one had. Don't know what it was but it wasn't there. I also do not think that this second one is a family film. The first one my kids loved but this one is too much and after seeing it, I think I could have waited for the DVD. As for POTC3, I will be waiting to see it on DVD. :listen:

I liked it (liked the first one better) but the special effects alone made it worth it to me! It was very long though. My ds (ADHD) had a hard time sitting there for over 2 hours.

I can't wait for the third one and will go to see it in theaters!

I thought it was great! Loved it! :thumbsup2

I haven't seen it but my 17 year old son and his friends saw it last night and were so disappointed. They said the plot just went round and round in circles and the movie was just basically a set up for the third movie. It only has a 52% on rotten tomatoes which is viewer's opinions. I'm still going to see it though.

I thought it was awsome!!!

plot smlot. Who cares!

Entertain me baby, entertain me. And that it did!!

It was ok. Nothing great. Maybe I expected too much.

I dunno- we loved it. It was different than the first, but it left me going, "What's going to happen! Holy cow!" all night long. I think people are having a problem with the fact that Capt. Jack Sparrow is dead and "gone"! (It's in white- highlight it, but it is a spoiler). I am hoping there's a clue in the new ride as to what's happening next!

Our theater was wild! We had people ARGHing before the film, everyone had face paint on and were dressed like pirates. It was a great time!

I loved it. DW not so crazy about it even though she thinks Capt Jack Sparrow is the best thing since Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing...I know, please don't ask. Yes, the 2nd movie is a total set up for the 3rd but you had to expect it when they announced that POTC would be a trilogy. Special effects were phenomenal while, I admit, the story lacked a little. I am anxious for POTC2 to come out on DVD and will watch it again at that time and am very much looking forward to the 3rd installment next year(?).

I enjoyed it as much as the second one.... however, I think Barbossa made a much better villian than Davy Jones... so that element was not as good for me

. I was so happy to see Barbossa back at the end, now I am looking forward to the 3rd movie.
The special effects were great, IMHO, that is what I wnat more than a excellent plot in this type of movie.

Went to the 10:00 PM show last night with DD and her friends (had a friend along with me as well). It was so much fun to be there with everyone dressed in various pirate garb! I wanted sooooo much to love the film as much as the first one. But, even tho' the effects were amazing, and I was entertained for the entire 2+ hours, it just didn't "wow" me as much. I think the first movie had it all: great plot, super effects, and some awesome fight scenes.....with some clever and funny stuff thrown in too. The storyline in Dead Man's Chest seemed to run all over the place in the beginning and things just seemed.....I dunno...."over the top". Kinda like they were just doing what they could to outdo the first movie...no matter how weird or surreal. I did like the surprise at the end with Barbossa...that was totally unexpected for me!

And....if I could have been Kiera Knightly for those few minutes she kissed Johnny Depp....HOLY COW! :faint:

Too Long (what the heck was it really 2 1/2 hrs?)
Too many special effects (not a guy)
Too many action scenes (not a guy)
Why did all the characters have to be so gross?
Not enough character development
When I see a movie the main feeling is, do I care if something bad happens to the mains actors (kiera, orlando, johhny) or not? I did not in this one. I had no real emotion, for the characters.
The best thing about this movie was Davy Jones, you could feel his character in spite of his heavy mask.

My son 15 thought it was great.

All that being said I am hopeful that the third installment will redeem the triology

My DH and I both really liked it a lot. I was actually expecting more action out of it based on another review, so I thought it would be more of that and less plot.

The plot was very interesting to me and I liked that it wasn't no plot at all. It was actually rather complex and you were able to see more of the characters and see how their minds work. It just solidified more of the personalities IMO

The effects were great to me!

So I guess I totally disagree with a few about the charcters developing. While I was "upset" at the end, I knew that things will have a happy ending.

I personally love 2-3 hour movies, and I love epics as well as trilogies (or beyond). This was really setting up for the final movie and I loved that.

I am an action loving person, not much grosses me out. Of course I also love sappy chick flicks too and this had a good enough blend for me :)

I loved it! I went in knowing that it was basically going to be setting things up for #3 though. I think when #1 came out it was something new and exciting so that may be why some people are a bit disappointed in #2 - doesn't have that same NEW feeling. I can't wait for #3!! pirate:

I'm torn about it. I liked it alot because of the characters, they're all so great. The chemistry- even Norrington- that they all have together is fantastic. (And how can anyone resist Orlando). I loved the fighting scenes, great action parts in this one.

However... this one seemed a little over the top for me. It seemed that they tried to fit too much into this movie. It almost seemed TOO far fetched, I know it's fantasy, but this one seemed a bit much.

I did enjoy the movie overall, though.

The second in a trilogy is always the odd man out in my opinion. We are excited to meet the characters in the first and "know" that in the third their conflict, whatever that may be, will be worked out so the second just exists as a bridge between the two. We know these characters and have high expectations of them.

I agree that the chemistry is fabulous between all of the stars. I hardly noticed the time slipping by. I couldn't believe it was over. I left the movie feeling satisfied but missing something too. More dialogue? Less action? I don't know. It was good, we will buy the DVD, and anxiously await #3.

What I really want is for my local audiences to get into movies more. There were so many times I wanted to clap or cheer and these people sit like bumps on a log.

I thought it was good but not as good as the first one. My husband had the perfect analogy--I told him I knew the 3rd one would be better because this was all setting up the next one, and he said "it IS 'the Empire Strikes Back'".

I totally agree with you.

I didn't think we needed more character development...isn't that what the first one accomplished? This is one of the reasons I've always liked 2nd movies better...we are already familiar with the characters and now we get to see more of them in new adventures.

I thought the plot at first was very complex and seemed "all over the place" but to me, that was because the characters were all over the place. We had to kinda see where they were to get them all together for this story to take place.

Loved the surprise ending...and I find myself wondering how they're going to accomplish what they are setting out to do with the third one!

And I especially agree with you about the audience! I was the only one who showed any emotion when Captain Jack first appeard on screen...and nothing after that (except a few laughs here and there).

I want to see it again (probably not this weekend though). We will buy the DVD and can't wait for the next installment.

We just got back from seeing it. I thought it was really good. My girls loved it, or HIM (Orlando Bloom)! I loved the ending. Can't wait 'til next year!

It was ok, I liked the 1st one much better. My DH and I also had a hard time understanding what the gypsy/fortune teller was saying at times.

Also be sure to stay til the end of the credits for an additional scene.
