This may be old news, but its new to me. I've heard some speculation that as a result of the 5 month ride closure for POTC, that it could be possible that new ride element, which would correspond to the movie, would be added in this classic attraction. Well, I just read something on ************* which seems to have confirmed this:

A crew of plundering and pillaging pirates, now lead by Barbossa, attack a Caribbean seaport town and sets it ablaze in a wild night of reverlry. We will also learn the motive behind the attack: They're in search of their old shipmate Captain Jack Sparrow, convinced he knows the location of a fabulous treasure.

In the enhanced attraction, Guest will come face-to-face with Captain Jack Sparrow and experience new special effects, including a ghostly apparition in a curtain of mist.

The attraction is scheduled to close March 1, 2006, with a tentative open date of July 7, 2006, just in time for the opening of the new second film "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" that opens in theatres nationwide.

Sorry if this is old news, but I thought it might be of interest of some.

Thanks for the info! I guess since it will not be open when I am there in May, I simply must make another trip in September. Aw, rats! :goodvibes

I read about this closing last weekend here on the dis and checked out WDW website........nothing closed at MK in April except the riverboat.....anyone know how accurate these reports are???

I hope they don't change the ride too much. PoC is CLASSIC Disney! I love PoC--hairy leg and all!

That said, I'd be curious to see the new additions and to see how much more realistic they are making the ride. I remember being terrified of the cannons when I was a kid. I would duck and hide every time a cannon landed near our boat. :lmao:

On one of the sites they said the reopening was scheduled for July 1st and since we are going July2nd, I was excited about seeing it, but now you say July 7th. I hope it does reopen before the 10th since that is when we return home. We have all always loved this ride, but I do look forward to something new. Thanks for posting!! :sunny:

I had read July 1st as well. First I heard July 7th, but read it was July 1st!!! I hope so as we leave for home on July 5th...

Soft opening, soft opening, soft opening... I can wish can't I???

We just returned from WDW 2 days ago and agree that the information is correct. All of the local news stations was reporting that POC is closing to be refurbished and that it will reopened on July 7th, to coordinate with the release of the movie on that date. I will miss it during my May trip, but will be happy to see it during our October trip. BTown really seems to have the scoop. Tks!
