POTC - it is different?

My boyfriend and I went on Pirates too many times to count on our January trip. He never mentioned it, but I noticed that the signature smell was a lot more faint, if it was even there at all. However, as some other people have noted on here, the smoke during the battle scene was definitely worse than on our last trip. It was so strong that it made me cough every time. During certain points I actually had to start covering my nose and mouth with the collar of my t-shirt or a tissue. That being said, it's still one of my favorite rides! pirate:

I am glad to see that a few others have noticed the change as well....and glad to know that I am not losing my mind just yet.

Speaking of the extra thick fog, when did that change happen? Everytime we rode POTC my DS would start hacking like a chain smoker at that spot in the ride.

Just got back tonight from 5 days in DL/DCA. One of the comparisons I was going to make about the ride at DL versus WDW was one odor that wasn't there.
While I admit hands-down, the POTC is far superior at DL, they lack only one thing to make it perfect - in WDW the POTC has a faint smell of charred wood/wood smoke in the burning jail/dungeon section. That added a nice touch of realism to me.
Everything else about the ride at DL is much, much better than at WDW.

One other thing - to anyone that was there this last week, yesterday, after my 5th time to ride during our stay, I finally figured out what my wife had noticed all along. She didn't care for the last scene with Capt. Jack Sparrow - said it didn't look like him at all. Anyone else notice that he didn't have his beard braids (or much of any beard at all, for that matter)? I didn't notice it until my last ride.

You all are a hoot! :rotfl2:

I hope the "smell" is there... DD will be crushed if it isn't! That is how we know we are in DL/WDW.... HM and POTC smells!

If this is true, it's "truly" devastating! For years I thought I was the only one infatuated with the smell, one whiff could bring back a plethora of memories. I will totally be crushed if I can never experience it again, why even go back?

On a positive note, I just have a hard time believing they could actually get rid of it.

I'll be sad if it's gone.....I love that smell! I always breath deep when I first walk in there. :) And ummmmm ya, count me in the camp that would smell Johnny Depp or Orlando Bloom.......yummmmmmy! lol

Seems like most of the water rides have that "smell" IASWAA definitaly has a smell to it as well. I love it!

Scent is one of the senses that can induce all kinds of memories...
